Douglas Complex Fire - Southern OregonNo... Please Don't Come This Weekend!  It's the first time in 15 years that I've asked a Buyer not to come to Grants Pass, Oregon.  Sound funny?!  Well, here's the skivvy on what's happening in Southern Oregon.

Three fires, sparked by  a summer lightening storm, have been burning out of control in our neck of the woods for the past 2 weeks.  Over 3000 firefighters are fighting the Douglas Complex fire and 1000 firefighters are doing the same on the Big Windy fire, both in very rugged terrain.  Together, two fires have burned over 50,000 timbered acres, sending billowing fumes of smoke into neighboring towns.

Southern Oregon's air-quality index is ranging between 350 (at worse) to 160 (at best) in recent days.  The smoke is so bad that local residents have been wearing masks for weeks.  In addition, many rafting and boating businesses are shut down until further notice.  Not a good thing for America's Best Little River town known for its spectacular whitewater rafting on the wild and scenic Rogue River.

While I'd love to show property to potential buyers, it's really not a good idea to be outside right now.  For local residents, it's important to change your A/C filters in your homes and try to keep your pets indoors as much as possible.  Sadly, this doesn't look like it's going to blow over any time soon :(

I know a couple young men who are out fighting those fires. All I can do is pray, pray, pray everyday that they stay safe. You're doing the right thing by laying low.

How unfortunate... amazing how the spark from a split second lightening bolt can cause such broad and severe destruction. Hope things improve for southern Oregon soon.

Melinda - The national news has been reporting the unfortunate situation in your state with wildfires.  We have areas of California also enduring these disasters.  I hope firefighters can get the upper hand soon, and bring these fires under control.

Sorry to hear and I wish we could send some of our rain your way.  We are having to drain lake okeechobee into our River and screwing up the imbalance of Salt water and causing fish kills and manatee deaths

Oh and did I mention also threatening the integrity of the dike surrounding Lake okeechobee.  We would gladly send our rain elsewhere right now.

Thanks for all the well wishes and kind thoughts everyone!  We got some much needed rain tonight... a blessing indeed for the thousands of firemen fighting our fires.  Hopefully we'll see blue skies again soon... I've almost forgotten what they look like ;-)
