Paddleboarding rules and regulations for Florida are something that most people are not aware of. The US Coast Guard considers a paddleboard the same as a canoe or kayak: a small vessel. As such, it comes under the same guidelines!
While on your paddleboard you must have a life vest (although you are not required to wear it unless you are under the age of 6). You are also required to have a small whistle that can be heard for a minimum of one nautical mile.
If you are out on your paddleboard after dark or during times of limited visibility, you must have a flashlight or lantern with you that produces a white light. You are required to use this light if and only if another vessel is coming your way, to avoid collision.
There is so much to learn about boating in Florida. Whether on your paddleboard, kayak or canoe please remember that the US Coast Guard consider all of these small vessels and as such, there are rules and regulations that must be followed. Compliance with the law ensures safety for all.
