Au Revoir ActiveRain I'm Heading Out
I've packed my bags and I'm heading out now... BUT don't worry I'm only moving "up the block" and I'll see you again on every single future post! A child grows up and moves out. It is time to claim my own digs. More on that in a bit...
Like many of you, I came into ActiveRain in a stumble upon sort of way. I had a blog already, but I grew weary of the spam comments and lack of real interaction. My blogging eventually dwindled to nothing. Then I signed up for the trial AR account and watched the interaction here a little. Soon I figured I'd jump in myself and try a post. Somehow the AR gods spotted it and FEATURED it! My phone buzzed with email notifications ... all day.
Whoa! I think I like this place!
Well this is now my THREE year AR anniversary (my first AR post was 8/15/10) and to think of all the things I've learned here and all the valued connections I'd made since that milestone day. Right afterward, September 2010, I participated in a 30 day, post-each-day challenge and I was hooked. I've always been a technology guy, but the combination of Real Estate and technology came up as an opportunity when the economic downturn took away my full time hours as my Architectural employer had cut hours for everybody. Many lost their jobs completely, I was happy just to still be employed. Blogging took off for me in that time period and helped me make connections and get consulting projects that got me through a tough time. Just over a year ago, I was picked up again for full time employment (Technical Director at an Architectural Firm in Manhattan). Blogging is a part of me now and I will not give it up! (but it is now purely extra-curricular) You just have to be patient with the frequency of posts! (repeat after me, "quality, not quantity")
Anyhow, this post is about a couple of exciting news items that I want to share. For the past couple of years, I've been saying that I want to design a WordPress theme from scratch and start posting on my own WordPress site. Well, mission accomplished! I just went live with the site. (it still has a ways to go because my design is not finished, but it is ready to open the doors to visitors). Craig's Classroom is now a WordPress based site!
My second news item, is that I've started a new video series called the "Tech Tutor Series" and the first episode is now online and my first new post on my WordPress site hosts the video. My goal is to give my YouTube profile some traction and get more subscribers and views in that arena. These training videos will hopefully be the first step in that direction.
So my AR family... yes, I am leaving home. BUT, I'm only moving up the block... AND I will be phoning home ON EVERY SINGLE BLOG POST that I make on my new Wordpress blog (how do you spell syndication?)
Don't worry about the title of this blog post, I was just trying to get your attention! :)
Will you follow the link below and come visit me on my new site? The doors are open!
