Get Happy - Melinda PetersonCome on, Come on... Get Happy!  Are you happy where you live?  If not, perhaps it's time to consider a move!  CNBC just posted the happiest states on earth (and sadly, the list doesn't come with mouse ears).  Here's how the Top 10 Happiest States rank in overall quality of life:

1.  Hawaii - The Aloha State is one of the most environmentally conscious and healthy too.

2.  Vermont - The Green Mountain State is healthy, happy and sappy with maple syrup.

3.  Minnesota - The North Star State houses some the nicest people in the nation.

4.  Nebraska - The Corn Field State provides stress-free living and a low crime rate.

5.  Maine - The Pine Tree State is the safest place to live in the nation, and healthy too.

6.  North Dakota - The Peace Garden State has a strong economy and good air/water quality.

7.  South Dakota - The Mount Rushmore State offers a clean environment, booming business and low crime.

8.  Oregon - The Beaver State offers world class beauty, best air quality and the healthiest Americans too.

9.  New Hampshire - The Granite State is one of the healthiest places to live, and low crime.

10. Washington - The Evergreen State offers lots of attractions, pristine environment and low crime.

Interesting list!  I haven't lived in any of the states listed except Washington - but I can totally understand it making the list 'cause I am REALLY happy to live here in the midst of natural beauty and an easygoing lifestyle.  (Oregon might be the only state that'd lure me away.....)  :)

Melinda, some of these like Hawaii and Oregon aren't all that surprising but others like North and South Dakota are down right shocking. Thanks for the info!

Mel,

Great info, and it is amazing when you think of various parts of the US.  That is precisely why we will not do over the phone brand strategy or marketing, whithout getting the lay of the land, the people and the lifestyle. A

LOL... Donald.  Florida is definitely a sunshine state... with lots of yummy oranges too ;-)

I thought so too... Nancy.  I was happy to see both of our states on the Happy list ;-)

Ditto Sharon... can you believe I've never been?  It's on my list of places to visit... VERY SOON!

I was surprised by the Dakota's too... Phil.  The Pacific Northwest states made me smile ;-)

Very smart... Alexandra.  You just never know about things until you take a peak for yourself ;-)

Melinda - I make a daily decision to be happy ~ wherever I am. Lots of Utahns act similarly; you just have to visit to find out. Wonder who makes up these lists. In the last year we have been awarded amongst other things "Best State for Lovers" and State with the soberest University (opposite end to party places).

Melinda, That is a very interesting list of top 10 Happiest States based upon quality of life. I am not surprised that California is not listed :-D

I don't live in the happiest State, but happiest county? Now that's a different story! Would anyone like a glass of Sonoma County wine?

Lucky you, Melinda, to live in a state that made the cut! Mine didn't, but I've been casting my eye towards your coast lately, thinking about retirement. Your video sure works to make Southern Oregon seem even more appealing.

Mel, if I get any happier they'll put me away for good.  Everything is here except snow skiing and I can fly out any time I need to hit the slopes.  I can't water ski in Minnesota in February!

I love Utah... Larry... for all the reasons you stated and more ;-)  Some of my (famous) relatives live there... I love the Wasatch mountains for skiing... and beautiful rock formations ;-)  It's a clean state!

I thought it was an interesting list too Kathleen.  I was actually surprised Oregon made the list when there are so many other great places to live!  As for Cali... I love Santa Barbara, Orange County and San Diego!

Sonoma should be the Capitol of California... just for the wine factor Cynthia!  One of these days, I'm going to do a road trip and stop by and say hello ;-)

Thanks Elva!  If you're ever in my neck of the woods for a west coast visit... please stop by and say hello!

Whoa is right... Sharon!  Lucky girl.  I want to see that part of the country someday ;-)

You're always a happy camper Lou... I like that about you!

You definitely have beaches and sunshine... Charles.  I've visited a couple of times... did the touristy thing at Disney World and Gatorland... had my first gator-tots there... tasted like chicken ;-)

LOL... Tammy!  You're a cool chickypoo... and happy too!

Kevin ~ You wonderful beaches and sun ;-)  Sometimes I miss the Cali sun... but hey, I can visit!  Go South West Young Man!

You crack me up Kevin... straight jacket and all ;-)  How about ice-skating in February?!

It is indeed one of the happiest places on earth... Gayle!  How are ya kiddo?  I bet you're having a fantastic summer on the Lake.  Wish I was there breathing your fresh clean air ;-)  Can't wait until our fires get under control... I'm heading west for some bluer skies ;-)

How cool, our two states are on the list! No surprise. However, I am surprised that Colorado didn't make that list. As you know, I'm heading there on Wednesday morning and can hardly wait.

Are you going to Bend for those bluer skies - or Colorado too. If so, wish it wasn't such a busy time, I'd try to hook up with you.  It's been a bad fire year and my heart breaks for all of those affected. Thinking of you....

Many of those states don't surprise me (although the corn states threw me for a loop - I guess the lack of huge cities lowers their overall stress levels??). Having lived in the PNW, the WA/OR connection is 100% believable. My second home!

As for Hawaii, well, that's on the long-term goal list for me and the Man. We would very much like to live there: whether for a year to try it out (fun!) or permanently (we'd have to find out if Dave is allergic to the Aloha State first).

Thinking of you and folks you know being affected by the fires. Hope things are calming down up there.
