Do you protect yourself at an Open House? And how do you do this?
Being aware of your safety at an open house is something we should all be aware of as Real Estate Professionals. Not only women, but men should be aware of their safety too. I have talked to different people about how they protect their safety while sitting an open house in their area. I have heard many different answers.
Having more than one agent at an open house seems to be an answer I receive quite a lot. This answer especially comes from women REALTORS. This is a great idea, not only for safety, but for assisting potential clients when they attend the open house. Another answer I have received is checking in with an agent or family member when you arrive at the open house and then each hour you are there and again when you leave the home. I have actually found this answer more popular with the men REALTORS I speak with. I also hear that carrying a can of pepper spray with you is popular, as is carrying a concealed weapon. I find these answers coming from both men and women REALTORS about equally.
Being someone who sits open houses about once a week in many different areas of town, I keep myself protected in a couple of these ways. However, I was wondering if anyone was willing to share ideas on ways that they keep themselves protected during open houses or just showing properties as a regular part of your day?
