What a scary start to the day! Glad to live in a small town.
Recently at the end of the day, I am wiped out. Doesn't help that I have a dog with skin allergies who wakes me up in the night scratching.
This morning 4:45 am, dog scratching again.. Fully awake and feeling bad for her I take her to the kitchen so she doesn't wake up any one else. After a few minutes she is better.
Then the cell phone rings! Its 5 am, who is calling at that hour?
I look at it, its a local number, tempted to reject the call but I think, there is a reason for this call.
"Mr. Fogleman, this is the town of Bedford 911 center" I hear when answering the phone. " An officer is at your office and the doors are open." I spring into action! Grab shoes, keys.. run to the car.. Good news is we don't accept cash nor do we keep it around. The only thing of value are the computers, TV (for showing our listings to people on the street) and a couple of printers.
As I pull up I see a town police officer talking to a state police officer and three patrol cars nearby.. As I pull up and park, I am thinking.. ok this cant be so bad.. should I wake up my insurance guy.. assuming the server is gone, when was my last back up.... I was thinking all the worst..
I introduced myself as I walked up. The office says "we were doing our nightly door check and your door wasn't locked. We check the building and no one is inside but the desks do not have computers on them. Can you look around and tell us what is missing"
I go inside, everything is there! The missing computers are laptops we bring home.
This is just one of the many benefits of living in a small town. While it was scary, its great to know officers are protecting my business and making sure every thing isn't stolen.
