Back to Basics - Let's Get Real

These days you hear so much about "Getting Back to Basics."  What is back to basics anyway?  I heard one industry expert say that you have to get back to basics and get that farm mailing going.  Another say get back to the cold calls, and another speak about more display advertising.

Let's get real in todays world.  To what year are we to go back to? Certainly the basics have changed since the 1940's, and they have certainly changed since the 1990's.  So what does getting back to basics mean?

The basics are still take listings that will sell, work with buyers who have the urgency and ability to buy now, and (as Saul Klien points out in a recent video) market you, your services, and your listings - interpretation - do lead generation activities and do them often.

I don't think it is about getting back to basics, rather it is about doing the basics.  Today the basics also include using technology to prospect and generate leads.  From what I see, agents who are not effectively using technology to do the basics, are losing market share.

Saul Kline posted a video speaking about marketing.  It is a short back to basics video on marketing I think worth watching.

What do you think?

Keep it simple...tour your facilty taking up the slack, run a tight operation where steps are counted and make a list of what the objectives are as a guide. We humans complicate our lives don't we? Good post!
