New heat pump install. But there are still issues. Home inspection.

This new heat pump that was installed was a nice one.

The sellers were really proud that they didn't need to operate the swamp cooler any more.

At Desert Sun Home Inspections in carlsbad, New Mexico.

There are a lot of things the home owners don't even think about when having a new water heater, Heating or cooling unit installed.

That is a "Trust but verify inspection". You just might trust your contractor. But I trust no one.

This is a classic example of why I trust no one.

When i entered the home after inspecting the new Heat pump on the roof. I saw this in the living room.

This raised a red flag especially when I'm there to inspect just this install.

See what I see?

Loose ceiling register in living room.

Loose ceiling register in the living room.

Then we get a look at why the register was loose in the attic.

Yowser.

Disconnected vent in attic.

The vent was not even connected to the main trunk lines. No wonder there was not any air coming from it.

The power vent/ blower was in the old units ducting.

This is why you get a "Trust but verify inspection"

Now the contractor needs to come back and finish the job.

Remember.

Always get a professional certified home inspection.

Probably could have avoided the new equaipment if they had just poked their head into the attic, but hindsight is always 20/20.

Clint: This should have been taken care of when the contractor was first at the house...now they have to waste time and resources to come back and get it right.

Some times the ducts in an older house are too small to handle the air needed by a new heat pump!  That is often the problem when I find poor air flow with a new unit.

The heat pump installer wasn't thinking about his installation for sure.  The difference in workmanship from one contractor to another is as different as night and day.  When needing a professional check around with friends and relatives and see who they have been satisfied with.

Clint -- if they are going to re-vent the home they should remove the unused old vents.  If they are going to reuse the old vents, they should make sure they are properly installed.   This is NOT good work.

Hi Clint.  So did they need a new heat pump or just have the vents hooked up?

Clint, are you sure "yowser" sums it up? The contractor should have his license revoked! Enjoy your day!

Hi David,

Even by looking in the attic they would not had been able to see the un used ducting. I think it was an oversight.

Have a good day in the Chicago area.

Hi Jay,

The ducting was up graded. But this one was not hooked up or disconnected then new ducting ran for this vent. Curious to say the least. All in all, they just missed it.

Have a great day in Bristow my friend.

Hi Evelyn,

There needs to be more attntion payed to installs by contractors. Just because it works, will not mean it was donr the right way the first time. And yes get a few references.

Have a good day in Indiana. Thanks for the comment.

Hi Steven,

You know this and I know this. But the contractors want to get in and get out ASAP.

Then the client's end up getting the short end of the deal.

Have a great day in Federal Way Washington.

Hi Conrad.

Yes they needed a new furnace. The sad part is....The new heat pump went on the roof.

They never removed the old unit from the home. That's pretty chicken crap to me.

Have a good day in Webster, Ma.

Hi Wayne,

Everything else looked good. An oversight? Perhaps. But pay attention to detail, and make sure your apprentices are doing there job as well.

Have a good day in Fort Myers and at the meet up.

Hi Toni,

Ever since the new unit was installed. the home was rented so the renters didn't know the vent was there to push anything out.

Crazy but true story.

Have a good day in Trinity.
