I don't know what you like to on a mid-summer's Sunday afternoon, but one of my favorite pastimes is to stroll down the main street of the picturesque village of Piermont, NY.
I'm lucky enough to live and work in this wonderful village. My global real estate business is based here, and I am also a partner in a much more local enterprise; Bunbury's coffee shop. Known to many of the cyclists who visit us from nearby Manhattan as they complete what has become known as "The Muffin Run", and to locals for our fresh baked muffins, scones, biscotti, home-made soups, sandwiches and wraps, but more for our wonderful coffee ( we have our special blends roasted locally and the ambiance which is to be found in the tiny 18 seat cafe. My husband Tim, runs the tiny shop, together with a wonderful crew consisting mainly of Tappan Zee high school teens, with our wonderful head baker Marie and Barrister extraordinaire Raffi Jean.
On Sundays, one of our busiest days of the week, Tim needs to check on the crew regularly, so we love take the time to stroll through the village we live in, enjoying all the hustle and bustle along the main street. Dining al fresco has become one of the village's main attractions with no fewer than six restaurants offering outdoor dining. In inclement weather there's another five or six more with indoor seating!
Today I wanted to take some photos of Piermont's Sunday Farmer's Market for this blog. Though living next door to our wonderful neighbors, we really don't need to buy much right now. The veggies next door are so abundant we have orders to take what we need, whenever! (Doesn't get much better than that!) There is however a stand which sells amazing fresh breads, an artisanal cheese stand and an amazing spice and chutney store with pungent offerings enticing you to take some home to try.
Picking up a bottle of wine from the Piermont Wine Shop is always a joy. It's even smaller than Bunbury's, but packed full of interesting bottles, with friendly owner Jung, always on hand to make suggestions. The many eclectic clothes stores have outdoor sales most weekends, with interesting creations unlike any to be found in department or main street stores, are always worth checking out.
There's a entire area that we didn't explore today called Flywheel Park, with it's ice-cream store, antique and art shops which always pull in the weekend crowd, but I'll save that for next time. Right now I'm off home to make a delicious dinner with our booty!
Piermont is a wonderful village just 12 miles from Manhattan's George Washington Bridge. Famous for the pier which juts out into the Hudson River, Tallman State Park, The Erie Rail Trail, fine dining and many eclectic stores, it's a great place to live.
