Back to School Rally in Waterbury CT Aug 21
The Waterbury CT school year is about to begin. In anticipation, and with the thought of generating some enthusiasm, and a familiarity with one of Waterbury's most important buildings, the Public Library, a Back to School Rally will be held in Library Park, adjacent to the Waterbury CT Public Library on Wednesday, August 21 from 1 to 5 p.m.
Specifically, youth and families will find information regarding after-school programs, health care support, community resources and school supplies.
Local vendors and non-profits will also provide things such as pens, notebooks, backpacks and even uniform clothing free of charge. The rally will also feature motivational speeches from Dr. James Dalton of Building Bridges and Marilyn Calderon of CT Parent Power. Both organizations work to create tight knit communities through connections between parents and children.
Some local youth will present a talent show on the band shell.
The rally will be open to all elementary, middle and high school students and their families.
Volunteers, including many of the city's high schoolers, will make up the entire event staff.
Entertainment will include children's games, give-a-ways and raffles. DJ Big J of HOT 93.7 will broadcast live from the event and Frankie's will serve free hot dogs.
