Annual Longboard Surf Classic in Long Beach Township!
The Alliance for a Living Ocean's (ALO) 5th Annual Long Beach Island Longboard Surf Classic is scheduled this Saturday August 24th at Long Beach Island’s 110th Street Surfing beach (Haven Beach section of Long Beach Township).
The event is named the “Classic” because only vintage longboards will be allowed, and the contestants will be scored by classic contest criteria such as noserides, hanging ten, cheater fives, dropknee turns, fin first takeoffs, spinners, length of ride and cross-stepping style. No leashes, and no board modifications are allowed.
The Surf Instrumental band the Diamondheads will be performing live during the contest, performing a retro mix of Dick Dale and Ventures songs with their own 1960’s era-inspired compositions.
The competition begins at 8am. It's $25 to pre register and $40 the day of the event. Here is more information to register.
Along with the Surf Classic ALO is sponsoring an Environmental Fair. It’s a festival of local environmental organizations and “green-minded” companies such as, Surfrider Foundation, ReClam the Bay, Barnegat Bay Partnership, Clean Ocean Action, Save Barnegat Bay, Garden Club of LBI, LBI Foundation of Arts and Sciences, and Tuckerton Seaport.
