Hire a veteran! I did and it was one of the best moves I have made! There has been a lot of advertising lately promoting the hiring of veterans. I am very proud to say, we recently hired a veteran. Joe Schriner. Our business model does not take on too many new agents. It is not that we are opposed to them, we just understand the on-boarding and training involved is more conducive to a real estate company that has mentors available to take the time that is necessary to bring these new agents along. I have got to say I will take on new agents all day long like Joe.
We explained to him when he came on board that our time will be limited with him as we get started. We are however able to work with an agent that has a business mindset, that can follow complex ideas and strategies, that has the patience to see them through, that trusts the experienced agents to guide him and is willing to work at everything we give him without requiiring much handholding along the way.
Each of our agents gets a custom tailored marketing program that best fits their personality, background, desires and specialization. Much like the military, we want to best utilize the tools that a person already has, we are not going to take a relatively shy person and have them door knocking or cold calling (in fact we would not have any agent do that unless they absolutely wanted to).
Joe owns a ranch just southeast of Denver and has a passion for helping other veterans along with a heart for a very beautiful breed of horse, the Gypsy Vanner. I will be honest, I have never heard of a Gypsy Vanner until I met Joe and he shared with me his passion for this beautiful animal. I have since seen several hundreds of photos and have to agree, there is something special about this breed of horse. It only makes sense that Joe works with other veterans as well as horse property owners in order to best utilize his experience and his passions.
For the veterans, he knows what it is like to be a family disrupted by the high frequency of relocation and can help a family through the transition along with connecting that family to another "specialist" in the next town or sity they get transferred to.
As I mentioned earlier, we do not seek out new agents and are very particular about the new agents we do bring on, if Joe is any indication of the type of Realtor that we can expect to find in every veteran, than I would welcome them all with open arms, and I highly recommend other brokers as well as buyers and sellers to "hire a veteran". You will not find a harder working, more committed individual.
Joe has taken everything we have given him in his short two months and brings it back tenfold, he will be a stellar agent and is already starting to reap the benefits of his hard work.
