Since there are no golf courses in the Grand Canyon, the next best thing would be golfing in Sedona, Arizona. Breathtaking views of majestic red rocks contrasted with emerald green fairways and greens, makes golfing in Sedona, Arizona, one of the most enjoyable experiences any golfer could have. There are three courses that I would like for you to know about and they are the Sedona Golf Resort, The Oak Creek Country Club, and Canyon Mesa Country Club.
The Sedona Golf Resort located south of Sedona in Big Park ( the Village of Oak Creek) was built in 1988 by Gary Plank and from the tips plays 6646 yds. Par 71 with a slope of 128. Don't let the yardage fool you, it's tough. It feels like a high desert course unlike other courses in town. The back nine is just unforgetable for raw beauty, particularly as you start the par 3 on number 10 since you are at about the highest point of the golf course. Sweeping panaramic view is just beautiful. Golf Digest, 2010 gave 4 out of 5 stars for Best Places to Play. Depending on the time and time of year one plays, the rates are $49.00 to $109.00. The pro shop has all you need with club rental available. Voted number 4 Best Clubhouses in the State, Arizona Republic, 1999. Have lunch outside at the Juniper Bar and Grille. Good food and really relaxing. The only draw back in my view to the facility is the practice green. Too small. The fairways and tees, Rye. The greens are Penncross Bent and can be faster than a barefooted jackrabbit. Learn more and go tohttp://www.sedonagolfresort.com.
The Oak Creek Golf and Country Club is about a mile away from Sedona Golf Resort located in Big Park (The Village of Oak Creek) It is part of V.O.C.A., the Village of Oak Creek Association. It is open to the public. The Oak Creek Golf and Country Club was built by the father and son team of Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Jr. This course is similar to what one might expect to play in the mid-west with the exception of the, in your face red rocks that are ever present. It's a treelined emerald oasis. It is situated on 145 acres, plays 6824 yards from the tips and has a slope of 131, par 72. Surprisingly, there is a fair amount of water that comes into play. Holes 1, 9, 13, 16, and sometimes 15 for a 'desert course'. Most of the greens are slightly elevated making your approach shot a little more challenging. The shade from the big trees always a pleasure, particularly in the summer. Though most golfers will take a cart, to get around, I have walked it a few times and found it to be very enjoyable. The front nine is more preferable for the beauty of the course, in my opinion. Have lunch or dinnner at the Redstone Grill and Bar after the round, just to take it all in. Practice range is decent. The putting green is really good and always in good shape. 18 holes before 10:00 a.m., summer rates, $79.00. Learn more and go tohttp://www.oakcreekcc.com/.
Canyon Mesa is located on Jack's Canyon in Big Park (The Village of Oak Creek). It is a nine hole executive course and just a joy to play. You will want to walk it. No other choice. It averages 140 yards per hole. For the most part 5 thru pitching wedge and putter is all you need. You want to play 18? Play the same nine again. This course is just a gem and is tucked away in a corner away from the hustle and bustle, if one could say that about The Village of Oak Creek. Walking this tree lined course, at times along a creek or by a pond is just a great way to get some iron and putting practice. There are views toward the back of the course that add to the whole joy of the day. Perfect for anyone who doesn't feel a driver is needed. A great way for dad's to spend sometime with their sons or daughters, husbands with their wives, or friends with friends. $25.00 will get you a lot of fun at Canyon Mesa. Not much in the way of a pro shop but show up without clubs and balls and they will get you set up. Learn more and gohttp://www.canyonmesacountryclub.com/.
The golf courses mentioned have residences located on the fairways or around the course . Condos to single family homes will range from the $200's into seven figures.
