The Holly Springs Cultural Center and Parks and Recreation Department is offering lots of fun courses this summer. Hurry - registration began February 2, 2008, and the most popular courses are sure to fill long before summer starts!
Your children can enjoy basic art courses as well as fun offerings like Battle of the Bands and Shakespearean Experience. Some are evening courses offered weekly. Some are weeklong halfday courses. There are full day programs offered as well. Age limits apply.
Transformers Robot Academy
Children ages 8-14 will learn the basics of robotics using Lego robotics kits and computers. They will build robots, program them, and watch them run. Flow-chart programming is used. Resident: $195, Non-resident: $234, supply fee $25, July 21-25, 9am-1pm, #4462
Bass Lake Nature Explorers
Kids age 11-13 will explore Bass Lake Park and nearby nature areas. Bass Lake Park was officially opened in 2004, and is the end result of a dam breach caused by Hurricane Fran in 1996. Battle of the Bands
As long as they have one year of instrument experience, kids age 8-14 are welcome. Bands will be formed, and band members will decide on a name, create a logo, and write an original song. That song will be performed at the end of the week, with the live performance recorded on CD. A Shakespearean Experience
Anyone age 10-17 can join this two-week Shakespeare encounter. Summer camp participants will cast roles, memorize lines, create props and scenery, and practice roles. A version of Much Ado About Nothing will be presented. Resident: $380, Non-resident: $432, Mon-Fri, July 7-18, 9am-3pm, #4465
Creative Cooking
Students ages 8-14 will learn some basic cultural cooking at the Holly Springs Cultural Center. While preparing light morning snacks and lunches, kids will learn more about seasonal ingredients, reading and preparing recipes, working in teams, and practicing kitchen etiquette. High School Musical Dance Camp
Students aged 7-12 can dance, sing karaoke, make crafts and more - all with a High School Musical theme, at the Holly Springs Cultural Center. If your son or daughter wishes they could be a WildCat at East High, this is the camp for them. Resident: $50, Non-resident: $60, Mon., June 9, 16, 23, 30, 6-7pm, #4445
Hogwarts School
If your child won't stop reading about Harry Potter, they'll enjoy this one. Students aged 6-12 will cast spells, brew magic potions, write secret codes, draw and dress up like their favorite characters - all at the Holly Springs Cultural Center. American Girl Doll Club
If your 6-10 year old has an American Girl Doll, join the fun at the Cultural Center. Students will sew a dress for their doll by hand, as they adventure through stories of Molly, Samantha, and the other American Girls with period crafts. Cartoon Craze
Your aspiring cartoonist ages 6-10 will have fun with famous characters like Spongebob, Ratatouille, Lightning McQueen, Webkinz, Littlest Pet Shop, Neopets, The Powerpuff Girls, Hello Kitty and more. Kids will learn to draw, sculpt, and sew versions of their favorites, with a little art and cartoon history thrown in. Resident: $195, Non-resident: $234, materials $10, July 7-11, 9am-1pm, #4463

Summer Camp at the Hunt Center
Children ages 5-13 will enjoy a new theme each week. Camps are weekdays from 7am - 6 pm. There are camps for ages 5-7, 8-10, and 11-13, with scholarships available. The Hunt Center is next to Womble Park in Holly Springs.
