Interesting e-newsletter idea

Real Estate Agent with tomlinson black

This my first blog ever and so I'm a little nervous. I'm also new to Active Rain and am just getting it figured out. Anyway, I am a new real estate agent but I was a mortgage lender before and my husband came up with a unique e-newsletter idea a year ago that was easy for me transfer over to this field because it is not about either field. The first month it went to 100 people, 12 months later it goes out to 900 local people. Everyone we run into we ask for their email address and tell them about our newsletter and they always give it to us.

The reason is because each month it features a profile on an old local business. My husband goes and interviews the owners ( never longer than an hour), Googles them and then writes a feature story (3 hours). He also comes up with a local trivia question and a tips how to save money or find bargains in our area. When a new business is going to open, he'll stop by and get the scoop and write something short. And people love getting it. Since almost everyone we know gets, it we are constantly getting comments and great feedback. He's planning on doing a one page paper addition to leave at different watering holes and restaurants that we know the owners of.

I'm lucky that my husband has a journalism degree and writes well. He figures it takes about 7 hours a month and considers it his hobby. You can check out his past stories, trivia questions and money saving tips at spokanevalleyscoop.com. The enewsletter host we use is Constant Contact and they are great.

Well I guess that wasn't so hard. Hope someone finds it interesting, Elaine Swanson

ps. if anyone has any tips on how to improve my blogging let me know

Elaine, that's VERY interesting and you're blogging just fine.  What has the newsletter done for your business?

Elaine- for a first time blogger, you did a great job. Well written with a great idea to boot. I was looking into e-newsletter marketing, so I will look into this.

Karen, Last month right after it went out. I was contacted by a reader who wants me to list 3 properties for him. Because itis an enewsletter I am able to put in ads and link them to our website. Last month 50 people clicked through to check out a house I have listed. Elaine

Elaine, Welcome to Active Rain and congratulations on your first blog.  This is the first email topic that I think people may actually read.  My big issue with email newsletters is that our email accounts are slammed with emails daily; thus, a newsletter is discounted as more junk mail.  Plus, who has time to read an email newsletter online.  Good luck with your newsletter it sounds like a great concept, just keep it short.
