Dr.'s advice to ward off Flu!!

By

I was dining with a Physician friend last night and asked him about the flu that has swept through Searcy and White County in the last few weeks.  He said of 33 patients he saw last week, only 3 had received the flu shot.  His opinion is that the flu shot definitely helped, which made ME happy because our local Board of Realtors had a nurse come last fall for all of us to line up and bite the bullet if we chose.  Phil and I lined up and got one. Looks like that choice paid off!

He also suggested that because we are in and out of folks homes where there has been who KNOWS what kinds of illness, we should dab a small amount of triple antibiotic ointment just inside our nostrils and breathe only through our noses while in a home.  Since most bacteria is airborne, this practice could greatly recude the germs that we breathe in!

I don't think the flu shot helps, most people actually get sick from the shot to avoid being sick.

Thank you so much for the tip. I was at the hospital today with my husband and he has influenza. We've had an outbreak it seems. Now of course, being a female-can I keep my mouth shut that long. ha ha.

Born and raised in Austin, WE KNOW THIS PLACE!
My daughter just had the worst flu I have ever seen...It lasted for 1 week and it was horrible battling the fever.  I have never had such a fierce time keeping a fever below 100 in my life (or both of my kids lives=they are 17 and 20) I had to give her two Tylenol AND two Advil at the same time to keep it down, every-time I didn't it went up again... ARGH!!!  When I went to the Dr. with her on the 2nd day because we could not get in the first day they told me that the flu shot was not helping THIS TYPE of flu..... I will have to remember that tidbit of information you gave.  It's really scary...  GOOD LUCK!!!!
