Adding "chicklettes" to your website and "courriel" too (rendering your Real Estate blog content on the web and by emails)

By

Hello everyone,

I have been reading a lot lately to bring myself up to speed on RSS feed and podcasts.
As far as podcasts are concerned I have a way to go, especially with my accent but RSSwise, I was able to make some progress.

I decided not to add the direct content of my Blog on my site just yet but I still wanted to give my visitors the ability to register with me to get my blog postings so they could read my future daily inputs within the comfort of their MyYahoo, MyGoogle, MSN or AOL customized dashboards.

So I installed some RSS buttons (also called chicklets) on my site and also gave visitors who don't know or use  RSS the ability to get my Blog postings via emails. (also called courriels in French).

This is what it looks like: (Nav bar image from AJmasters.com on the right)right menu on AJmasters.com

Thanks to all who already posted on this site for the info I received.
I used the search feature, then selected blog from the drop down and use "RSS feed" as search keywords to find many posts on the subject.

I would like to thank these guys more specifically:

Add an RSS Feed to your Active Rain account

How to Create RSS Buttons (and Other Real Estate Blog Tips)

So how do you create these buttons? (also called chicklets)

Step 1- gathering the goods (FREE)
First, you need to get the RSS feed link from your own blog.
In ActiveRain, click on the top menu link "MyHome" then once on your own page click on the left menu "MyBlog"
When looking at your blog page, locate the little blue and orange button under the menu on the right (below your picture) and click on the RSS 2.0 chicklet button.
Your RSS URL address will be displayed in the top address textbox of your browser when the page opens up.
It looks like this:  "http://activerain.com/blogs/ajmasters/rss"   with ajmasters being my own username on activerain.
So your RSS URL should look something like this
http://activerain.com/blogs/YOURACTIVERAINusername/rss

This URL gives the address of your blog data compacted into XML to allow delivery to someone else over the wire. (RSS Feed)

Step 2 - creating the chicklettes (with a french accent)  (FREE)
To create buttons to make your blog available for people to load on common readers go to
http://www.ifeedreaders.com/chicklet-creator/
and follow the instructions and select the checkbox corresponding to the chicklets of the feedreaders you want on your feed list, and voila!,
the application will generate the HTML code to use on your webpage to display the "chicklets".

Step 3 - creating the emails option to supply my posts (FREE)
There are several RSS-to-email services you can use:
http://www.r-mail.org/
http://www.feedblitz.com/
http://www.masternewmedia.org/news/2006/05/23/rss_to_email_how_to.htm
I decided to use feedblitz.com because it is free and looked like it was well established.
First you need to register with them,
Once you have registered, you will be able to tell them which Blog you want to make available by entering the RSS URL you found in step 1.
They call this "Active Syndications"
The process here is similar, the application will generate some HTML code with your inputs and you will be able to use it on your page.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Mario
