Redneck Ingenuity Makes Home Inspections A Must

By
Real Estate Agent with ERA Beach Ball Realty

As a Pensacola real estate agent, I always recommend home inspections for my buyers (and sellers too). Most homes have the typical issues that agents and inspectors see often enough, but sometimes unusual "modifications" are encountered. And rednecks are especially good at creative modifications.

Many people don't think of Florida as having a lot of rednecks, but Pensacola is often jokingly referred to as LA (Lower Alabama).  In fact, just recently Pensacola home inspector Jim Ellis discovered some true redneck ingenuity in a home he was hired to inspect. Here are Jim's remarks, and a couple of pictures he snapped at this home:

"My inspection this morning had some handy man work done. Just as an example someone ran the cables from 2 Dish satellites through the top of a plumbing drain waste vent, made a hole in the pipe into the attic and had it exit to the bedrooms for TV! Certainly no short term problems here, but, possible water leaks, slow plumbing drain and odors in the attic could occur"

And I couldn't pass up adding this beauty from my favorite bad MLS photo guy Athol Kay.

How can you really call yourself a redneck if you don't have a clothes line running across your kitchen. Yes, this picture was actually posted on an MLS somewhere. Thanks Athol.

If any Pensacola rednecks are offended by this post, please understand something. I grew up on the west side of Pensacola which was redneckville at the time. We were all neighbors. So keep up the ingenuity my redneck brothers. Just beware of the home inspector!

Karl, this is a riot. I cannot believe - yet I now - that people actually live like this and do this sorta crazy stuff. There are people like this in every walk of life in every state. LOL, thanks for the laught.

The last picture, I'm not so sure I'd call a Redneck. There's another phrase we use for someone who has their house looking that way. Not all Rednecks are dirty. They just like to store things! We would call those people something along the lines of "Trash". I could see a Redneck putting up the clothesline. Funny blog. Thanks for the entertainment.

You are right about that last picture dawn. It was just too funny to pass up. I actually love a true redneck. Every time I have been stranded on the road side, it was always a good old boy type who stopped to help me out. If you've got a bunch of redneck friends, you really have a lot going for you. They are there when you need them. Just don't make 'em mad, or they are liable to want to whoop your behind (well, maybe not yours, but you know what I mean).

I love everyone. I think sometimes that's my problem. Always find the good in people. Jamaicans are another great bunch of people. They'll give you the shirt off their back. The way I'm able to tell if a Redneck lives at a particular house is if there are at least 5 junk cars in the yard, 1 broken down camper, the garage open with a Bar-BQ grill in front of it and 2 chairs in the driveway!
