On the way to the office this morning I heard on the radio that two of my favorite TV personalities will be appearing in Boise on the 25th of February as part of BSU's College of Engineering's 10th Anniverary! Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, Discovery Channel's Mythbusters, will be presenting a free show. I'll let the Idaho Statesman give you the details here.
It seems that at our house if we turn the channel off of HGTV, this is the only other show besides "24" that our television can receive... but that's OK because these guys are a hoot. Mythbusters is one of those shows that you think everyone knows about, and are surprised to learn that isn't the case... the folks at the radio station this morning were less than "with it" when discussing it.
I would love to see these guys tackle some of the Boise Real Estate Myths we bump into every day. In no particular order, how about some of these:
- there are at least a couple of thousand "little old ladies" in the Treasure Valley who will sell their homes for half what they're worth, if you could only find them
- you can buy a beat up old house for really cheap, and with a little weekend elbow grease, you can make a ton of money when you sell it
- the housing bubble will collapse soon and we're all going to lose money on our homes
- home prices will keep going up at 20% per year
- you can still buy a little home on "the Bench" for under $100K
- all the homes in the North End are desireable and will out-appreciate everything else in the Valley
- the Boise market is undiscovered
- the Boise market will "go back to normal" and my kids will once again be able to buy a home when all the investors have to cash out and go back where they came from
Heck, you could almost do a season, just on Real Estate! But then, it's alot more interesting watching them strap rockets onto old cars, dropping Buster off of buildings, and blowing things up!
