Free Google Business Center!

By
Real Estate Agent with Zephyr Real Estate - Noe Valley

I am on this "mission" to find every FREE way to market myself and my website. I have found that Google offers a free business ad on their Google Maps. The way it works is you create an account and then an ad for them to run. If someone types in "San Francisco Real Estate Agent" you name will come up on the map with an arrow to where you are located and give the user your contact information and website to visit. I don't know the exact numbers as to how many people click on this but it's offered at NO cost!!  They also have another section that you can create a coupon and they will display it to the right of your business ad. I currently am offering 50% off staging. Users can see that and print it out or email me in regard to that promotion. Below are the links to sign up and a link to my actual ad so you can see a "live" example. If you have any other examples to advertise on the internet for FREE I would love to hear them.

It is a great service.  Yahoo does the same - I just put myself on the map with them today.  You have to go to http://local.yahoo.com   You can register at the bottom of the page and it is free as well.  Thanks for the tip about the coupon, I missed that.

Keep in mind that in a competitive market it may not be as easy as typing in (city name) real estate agent and thinking you will come up on top with your brand new listing. This is certainly true in my hometown of San Diego. Many of those companies you see at the top of Google Places when you type in "real estate (city name)" hire internet marketing firms to sculpt their ads to be sure they are optimized to appear in this "7 pack" they call it. Of course typing in your personal name + real estate or something to that effect will usually produce your listing, but are people going to search like that? Probably not.

There are many good white papers on how to craft a well written google places listing that should perform well and you can find those online. I will offer two tips because I know some RE Professionals work from their home office, and that is to NOT put a PO Box in your Google Places listing. It is a violation of Google's TOS and could get your listing banned. Put a physical address (don't try your local mailbox store, with an address like 123 Main St. #453, Google knows that trick already)! Next, be sure to write about your home town on your website blog as well as here in AR. Tie your business to your community in Google's eyes.

My brother is an internet entrepreneur and is always looking for good business centers to work from. Some offer a lot more than others, including free WiFi, snacks, and comfortable work spaces. It is also a hidden gem to have clean bathrooms in a business center.
