Well, I've just completed my new pitch to the realtors in my area. In this pitch I've really tried to focus on what I feel I do best, which is still photography. Don't get me wrong, I love doing the virtual tours too, but the individual still image production is my passion.

Finding the perfect angle to capture the esscence of the room or the property, getting the lighting and colours to match with what I saw in real life....I love the challenge! I take every image into photoshop for colour corrections, density and brightness adjustments. I also believe that every vertical wall should be straight, so I correct perspective as well as barrel distortion. It takes a bit more time, but it's worth it!

I just bought a new camera outfit...a Pentax K10 with an adapter for the lenses to make them more wide angle and I'm still having a bear of a time taking pictures of smaller rooms.  I've looked into it and from what I understand I need to buy a very wide angle lens to be able to do this...looks like another $600 or $700...any opinions?

Yes that ottoman was cool! And the bathroom...to die for! The entire house was beautiful!

Interestly, the architect of that house saw the pictures and purchased a CD and wants me to shoot some of the other houses she's designed. You just never know what's going going to come of things.....

As far as the camera and the wide angle lens goes, a 10mm or 12mm lens will do the trick. I have a Nikon I would like to start using and the lens for that is around $600.....I just have to keep shooting and saving my pennies!

Thanks for the info! One of the cool things that I'm finding out about having a nice digital camera is that you don't limit yourself on the number of exposures...in my case it makes it more likely that this blind hog will find a nice acorn!

Digital is the way to go! Take as many shots as you need to, and only keep those that will work. The amount of pictures I have taken, far exceeds what I spent on the camera in the first place!

If I was still film in less than 6 months I would have gone through about 35 rolls of 24 exposure film at $5.98 each....=$209.30 (not including tax!) Then I would have spent another $10 each in developing fees....=$2093.00

Oh, it's more than paid for itself! Have fun with it! And check out www.photographyforrealestate.net and the link to the flickr discussion of RE photography. I've picked up so much knowledge from them.

We are virtual tour providers but I do understand your passion for still imagery. There is nothing better than to take, process, adjust and then stand beck with an ahh, or an aww or evan an ooooh as you mentally score your image from 1-10, (or maybe that's just me?)

It's not only my "score" of the image, but it's the realtors or the business owners, etc...it's their reaction that I'm looking for. They are always so amazed at the composition, lighting, colour etc....it's their pleasure and surprise that drives my passion!

I actually ran across a new agent that was taking pictures on her cell phone for her listings, and she thought they were fine.  Well, until I showed her some of mine.  It's not until people actually "see" images like these that they realize that creating an incredible photograph takes talent and experience.  Great work.

Thanks for your comment Brian. I can't believe someone would think cell phone pictures would be acceptable?!
