Response to "Why Should I use a Realtor?"

By
Real Estate Agent with William Raveis Real Estate

I would love to hear how more Realtors have responded to the question, "Why Should I use a Realtor?"

I'm in my third year of real estate so it doesn't surprise me now that there are still so many people that don't see the value in using a Realtor.  You would think most family and friends would automatically want to work with you since they know you but I have found that to not be the case.  I have actually had a (distant) friend confront me - nicely of course - and ask, why should I use you?  After telling him the benefits I could still see that after a few times showing him properties he really believes that all I do is open the door for him.  He thinks he can do my job better.

So if you have been asked the question, "Why Should I use a Realtor?" I would love to hear how you responded.

We stay up to date on the laws, required paperwork etc, that is needed when facilitating a transaction.  We also have access to and have formed relationships with lenders, title companies, home inspectors, appraisers.  How do they know which companies are reputable?  We are protected by E&O insurance, is a homeowner selling their home by owner?

There are lots of answers....familiarity with the process, knowledge, marketing skill, ease of showing, safety considerations, etc. I just try to answer based on the circumstances of the seller.
