Now Back in The US Hopefully Nowhere Near You!

A good friend of mine has recently had her life literally turned upside down by some nasty little creatures.

Bed Bugs!

You see she sold her home and decided to rent an apartment closer to the city while growing her new EBay business little did she know how this decision would almost financially, emotionally and physically ruin her.

Once she discovered why her and her daughter were waking up with bite marks on their bodies they contacted the department of health after a long fight with the property owner ( another long story ) they were told that just about everything needed to be destroyed!

I mean furniture and all.

High heat can get rid of the nasty creatures them from clothing any that aren't

Already destroyed like cashmere sweaters etc...

Apparently bedbugs can live up to a year without feeding and they can hide anywhere!

According to an article I read recently by Samuel Spies of the Raleigh Observer "Bedbugs were once largely eradicated from the US but they have made a come back  scientists and pest control companies believe it may be linked to international travel and bans on pesticides that were used to get rid of the pesky creatures years ago."

Bedbugs were once associated with unsanitary homes but modern infestation can occur anywhere.

I came across another Reader Digest article recently where a child that traveled with her school Chess team brought home some unwanted souvenirs.

Gosh, makes a person want to stay home.  Imagine what some hotels and motels have in their beds and furniture?

I saw something on 60 minutes (I think) about this. They were talking about them being in the very high class of hotels in New New York.

Yes,  This is very scary especially because these things are not easy to get rid of should your home become infested.

My friend had to leave expensive leather furniture, carpet, matresses, etc.. add that with the cost of fumigation and you get the picture.

I haven't had a chance to get passports for the kids yet so we haven't been out of the country yet this year, but we will be extra careful in the US and outside of the US when traveling.
