What a Real Estate Coach Recently Told Me !!!

I got an opportunity to spend sometime last week with an incredible Real Estate coach. A lot of the things he told me I already new and just have not put in place yet. But one thing he said kind of blew me away he said if you are not getting a least 5 referrals a year from people like your Dentist, accountant, Doctor, etc, everybody that you spend good money with and use exclusively then you should quit using them and find someone that is capable to give you referrals and I went wow thats kind of harsh, but I guess when you really think about it why shouldn't they, I refer other people to them, what is the difference. I was wondering if all of you guys are getting referrals from you Dentists and Doctors etc.?

good point, I have been using my insurance agent for years not one referral, just got one from my financial advisor.  I guess he does not want more of my money.  I don't go to my doctor enough to get a referral from him.

I guess before I dump my dentist, doctor, etc. I would have to ask myself one very important question: have I ASKED him/her to send me business? If the answer is 'no' (and I must confess that is my answer) then before firing them I'd need to have a nice heart-to-heart with myself. Are they supposed to instinctively KNOW to send me referrals? Even my close family members need a little 'coaching' on sending referrals, and it's up to me to make sure they receive it. 

Also, are you sending them referrals as well? A good way to kick this off right is to ask them for business cards. Tell them: "I meet people all the time who are in need of your services. Could I get a few of your cards to hand out? And hey, by the way, you probably meet people in need of a great real estate agent, too. Would you mind keeping some of my cards on hand to give to them? Thanks!" 

Darnit... I just added one more thing to my To Do List for today... ;-)

I am in agreement with this coach. My insurance agent I have been with for over 25 years no referrals --- so last year I told him that I have referred business to him and that I would like to establish a reciprocity agreement he said oh sure, then I found out that he is using another RE agent. So this year I am getting my auto, house and liability insurance through another agency. I believe that I have referred a considerable amount of business to this insurance agent (also I would have appreciated his honesty). As to my Dentist and Doctor I am aware that they have relationships with agents already, one has a wife in the business and other had a prior relationship with a RE agent before I became is patient. I did ask. I think it is important to get referrals.

I must be the luckiest guy. My Dentist is also a Real Estate investor and owns 40+ properties out of state. Everytime he needs someone to sell or buy a property for him, the first call he makes is to me. I get him in touch with agents in the state the property is located and in return I receive a small refferal check. Has happened 6 times last year. How do you think, I have such a great smile? LOL

Absolutely!  I ask for referrals from everyone I do business with.  Last year I sold a home to my manicurist, hair styist and this year I will sell one to my Optometrist.  I refer people to them as well!

I get from time to time referrals from my Doctor's but not at a rate of 5 per year.
