This is my first day on Active Rain, and listening to some people I'm long overdue. Then again, others have never heard of Active Rain. That leads me to wonder how I got here in the first place....
My direct lead to Active Rain came from a "website professional" that was reviewing all the things their company could do to make me a superstar real estate agent. The bigger the star, the more money I owed them! I don't mind paying for things that are fruitful (read: put more coins in my pocket than they take out), but this particular company hasn't provided a single solid lead yet (read: a client that actually bought something). They've sent me plenty of lookers, but frankly I can find lookers on my own.
In a larger sense, I'm here because I decided to finally enter the profession I've loved for over twenty years: Real Estate! While my timing in 2005 was about as bad as it could be given the current market trends, the past three years have been phenomenal. I love working as a Realtor! But how did I get "here"?
I had a work-a-day job in the Aerospace industry, once upon a time. I gave the company many years of my life, and enjoyed the work. What I didn't like was having someone else decide when I would or would not work overtime and weekends (sometimes seven days a week). I really wanted to be in sales or customer service (the wise among you know this is essentially the same thing). I knew I had to make a change, and finally did-- but not to real estate!
I left my aerospace company for a position with one of their suppliers as an account manager. This particular company had three areas to grow sales for their account managers: aerospace, automotive, and power plants. My boss chose to put me in charge of growing sales and accounts for the AUTOMOTIVE division! I knew virtually nothing about automotive practices, and a mere seven months later I was down-sized when the company restructured. Finally my AHA! moment had arrived. I started the journey into my real estate career.
It has been a few years now, and I'm still working overtime. I'm working seven days a week more now than when I was with the aerospace company. But you know what? I love it! I've met an amazing array of personalities and married them with "their" home. I've helped organizations find new homes. And I've met my share of lookers.
What brought you here? If you stick around and come back, I promise to share my joy and knowledge of real estate. I'll share some of the laughs, and some of the pain. At the end of the day, I'm glad I ended up here, and I hope you are too.
