While sitting a new construction site last week and doing my 'security checks' I met a man as I was walking by.
"You out house hunting?" He asked.
"No, I'm a real estate agent, I'm looking through them all if you want to come with me"
"Oh I'm an agent too, just saw you looking around thought I got lucky" OK I thought, he's just out previewing.
I saw him a few more times over the course of the week, an agent from a neighboring site speculated that he might be an undercover cop on a stakeout, but I just couldn't imagine 'wandering realestate agent' as a cop's cover.
This morning I had a young couple come in to my site with their parents, after determining what they were looking for I recommended another site to them and gave them the site agent's card. I called the other agent a few hours later to see how things went.
"He took them" she said
"He took them?"
"The cop, he took them"
"To jail?"
"No, to his office to write an offer."
Does this guy just go from site to site, hoping to catch people before they meet the site agent? Is that something people do? I'm finding it really hard to believe, but I really can't think of any other explanation. I can't imagine what could possibly make someone think that that's the business model to follow. I see signs all over the place in front of realestate offices saying 'site agent wanted' - why does he feel the need to squat others'?
The worst part - he forgot to charge his e-key, and the site agent had to open doors while he gave the tour.
