Active Rain and Localism Week-in-Review .....  February 17 - 24, 2008

For those who've done these Weeks-in-Review in the past, you know how much reading is needed to pull together the posts to feature.  We typically have about a week or so to do the necessary reading.  This time around, I had 2 1/2 days to get my reading in for this one - and my eyes are ready to pop out of my head!

This was a week full of rather interesting events going on here on AR and in the outside blogging world, that's for sure!

I thought this was THE feel-good, certain-to-make-you-smile post of the week:

* How To Stay Happy Always  - this is so cutely illustrated, you just can't help but smile! ---> Mary Warren

<--- graphic 'borrowed' from Mary Warren

For some of the good, the bad, and the ugly about blogging, here are 4 posts that I felt covered those very well:
          * From Featured Post to Good Morning America ---> Janet Guilbault
          * The Drama of Of It All "ICK"  'pairlessness is a disease..."   --->  TLW
          * Is Bloodhound Blog Over  what entertainment this was!   --->  Kevin Tomlinson
          * When Should You Disable Comments?   very interesting reading & comments   ---> Brian Brady

As reminders of the Code of Ethics for those of us who are REALTORS:
          * Don't Assume the Seller Dislikes Their Expired REALTOR! - careful what you say!   --->  Midori Miller
          * Deep Stewardship: The Intrinsic Rhythm of Asheville's Land As Felt in the Practice of Real Estate -
Ethics at its Deepest Level  ---> janeAnne Narrin

Here are some great tips for those who hold, and attend, sales meetings (share them with your owner/brokers and managers!)
          * Making Your Weekly Sales Meetings Count!  --->  Kay Bennett

For some marketing and blogging tips - who can't use tips like these!
          * Rethinking Marketing-Ourselves and Our Listings  ---> Patricia Kennedy
          * Lead Generation  ---> Laurie Manny
          * Top 5 Reasons Why I Hate Your Chiclets - now we know why those little things aren't so great! --->
              Mary McKnight

Thinking about hiring a virtual assistant?  This post is part of a series and is packed full of great info!
          * The Ultimate Guide Part 3...Finding, Hiring, and Keeping Your Virtual Assistant  --->  Laura Monroe

Here's a great post on how paying attention to our own cycles really can help us:
          * Understanding How Your Unique Seasonal Cycle Can Improve Your Life and Business!  --->  Lola Audu

It's important to keep track of our content - a post for just that:
          * If Your Content is Being Stolen, Does That Mean You're Famous?   --->  Jennifer Kirby

Localism Highlighted Posts

Here's some awesome eye-candy in the way of gorgeous pictures!
          * Tropical Flowers from Maui Hawaii  --->  Georgina Hunter
          * Crescent City/Del Norte County   --->  Fran Gatti

gorgeous picture 'borrowed' from Georgina Hunter --->

Beautiful examples of really showing off local areas:
          * A Tale of Two Cities Near Anne Arundel County Maryland  --->  Margaret Woda
          * Tempe's Art and Entertainment   --->  Nick Bastian
          * Shopping for a Vacation Condo on Maui - What to Look For   --->  Georgina Hunter
          * Springfield VA Real Estate Tour of Homes and Neighborhoods  --->  Karen Kurschka

Posts with great tips for sellers:
          * What Buyers Are Saying About Your House    --->  Lisa Heindel
          * My House Didn't Sell - It's Their Fault!  --->  Diane Testa
          * Ten Questions to Ask A Decorator/HomeStager  ---> Dane Caldwell
          * Get Your Home Noticed and SOLD With Auctions   --->  Jason Smith

A cute post with some very helpful advice for buyers:
          * It's the Match.com Strategy for Home Seekers!   ---> Sonja Babic

And last but by no means least - this is a post that shows what life is all about:
          * Me, My Shadow, and My Grandson Having Fun at the Beach!  --->  Dan Forbes

I hope you enjoy this week's features!

Lisa - you're very welcome!  Your post about what buyers are saying really should be a must-read for all sellers, in my opinion.

George - thank you for those kind words!  It is a lot of work, but lots of fun reading as well.

Nick - you did a beautiful job showing off your area!  I enjoyed that post because I went to ASU for a bit way back when.  Thanks for the comments on my blog, too!

Kathy - I hope you enjoy reading these posts as much as I did when I found them.  And many thanks for the email, too!   ;-)

Hey Woo Hoo!! Enjoy your reading task - there are some great posts I hope everyone gets a chance to read!

Many thanks for reading and commenting!

Colleen - thanks, and enjoy all these posts!!

Kevin - where's my Diet Coke and popcorn?  Grits?  If you bookmarked this, don't forget to actually read them!!  ;-)

Mary - well, I'm glad I did the one you were first featured in!  Every time I look at your post above, I smile!  And I love that upside down little girl graphic I borrowed from you....  ;-)

Patricia - you're very welcome!  Your post has some great ideas in it and I appreciated you sharing them.

John - yep, I did all that reading in 2 1/2 days....and boy are my eyes tired, and I feel like I overdosed, too.  The localism posts I featured are terrific posts, and very well laid-out.  Those who read them will get a real treat for sure!

Thank you all for reading and for your comments!

Hey Linda!  I wanted to find people who hadn't been featured on the dashboard and who do a great job with their posts, and I feel like I found some real gems in all that reading.  Thanks for your very nice comments!

Matt - I miss the Localism Weeks-in-Review we used to do separately.  I know the last week-in-review I did a little while back, I combined the 2 in that one, too.  I just think those who write mostly for localism need a little light shining on them, too, especially the really well-done posts like these I picked out.  I had a really long list that I had pulled out, and then I had to pare it down for this post - that was hard!

Kerry - I'm glad you found this post, and I hope you'll read the future ones as well.  Each of the weeks-in-review highlight posts from that week, so it makes it easy to try to catch up on some great reading if you weren't able to during the week.  Glad you enjoyed this one!

Thanks for the comments!!

Dan - you're quite welcome!  When I came upon your post, I just smiled and imagined how much we'd all likely enjoy a day doing just what you did.....

Allison - thanks!  Enjoy the posts!

Neal - there I go!   ;-)

Sandra - you're welcome, and thank you!

Hey BB! - I was asked on Friday afternoon if I could do this, said yes, and then wore out my eyes and brain Saturday and Sunday!  Would I do it again - yep, but not right away!  I love to see the wide variety of posts we have here, and I enjoy finding members who don't get the limelight much yet deserve it.  Enjoy!

Audrey - thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy these posts as much as I did.

Thanks for the comments - much appreciated!

Bill - enjoy your reading!!

Karl - you're very welcome, and I'm glad you enjoyed this post.

Diane - localism is where my focus is, too, and I love going through those posts to see what everyone else does, and how they show off their areas and expertise.

Jay - WELCOME HOME!!  Yep, you do have some catching up to do, my friend!

Thanks for the great comments - very much appreciated!

Diane - I loved your post, and thought it should be added to every seller's reading list!  Enjoy reading those that you might have missed, and thanks for a great post you wrote.

Karen - you're very welcome!  I'm glad you enjoyed this week-in-review, and thanks for your great post.

Missy - you're good to have caught most of them!  Most weeks, I manage to catch a few that show up on the weeks-in-review, but invariably miss plenty.

Colleen F. - thank you and I'm glad you enjoy these posts.  Have fun reading!

Janet - thank you for the great posts you wrote that led to Good Morning America contacting you and one of your clients.  Those were a great reminder that what we write is read far and wide.....  The "Ladies" were 'prolific', weren't they?  ;-)

Thank you all for the comments!

Gary - I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

Jeff - yep, I did this in that short a time.  Way too much reading to have to do in that short a time period, that's for sure!  But I did it, and I hope you enjoy all these posts!

Cynthia - you're very welcome!  And thanks for my hall pass for some rest - yay!!  ;-)

Adam - thanks!  One of the members here who was pretty active in the past made these for some of us who were around back then.  I don't know where some of the newer ones have come from.  If I can find out, I'll send you an email.

Joan - thanks!  I enjoy them, too, and it does take a lot of reading but that's also fun to do, too.  Enjoy them!

Thank you all for the great comments!

Kay - you're very welcome, and thank you for that great post!  I hope you enjoy reading the others as I did.

TLW - "ICK" should be up there as a reminder to everyone about the way things travel and usually get back to whoever said or did that not-so-nice thing.  Yeah, I loved that line about 'pairlessness' that I read in the comments!  Thanks for your comments!

Karen - that happy post just makes me smile every time I see those graphics! I hope it makes you happy, too!

Thanks for the comments - I really appreciate them!

I love week in reviews.  It takes all the best, boils them down, and gives them to readers in a format that is easy to navigate.
