Google Adwords

I have been working with Google Adwords for some time now and have had mixed results. For those of you who don't know, Google allows you to pay for placement on the side bar by biding on how much you will pay for each click to your site. The highest bids are placed the highest on the list and usually only the first 5 show up.

I have been using this method of advertisement for a while now with periods of on time and periods of off time when I only rely on natural placement of search engines. Which is relatively good.

My traffic absolutely goes up but I don't think the traffic is real at all. The average time that a viewer stays on my site goes down when I have Adwords turned on. Which leads me to believe that more of these people are just clicking on the link and then back. Something else I have noticed is that I have a lot more repeat customers when adwords are on. Now I am not sure if I get charged when a person comes back the next day or not, its debatable if I should be charged.

I guess I am just in disbelief that it isn't profitable. If there was a way to track people who used a Google link and registered on my site that would be great. But I don't know of one. So I am left to wonder if the money spent is worth it at all. Considering you only need one of every 800 to sign up or call you and if one in every 10 bought a house you would be about at a break even point.

I am just curious if other people use the service at all and how your leads have changed as a result.
