What is the best way to advertise to a greater market?

I was wondering the best way to advertise to a broader market.  I have a few ideas I would like to pass by all you rainers.  I have a advetising business that says they can give my site over 100,000 hit a month for six months straight, but at a significant cost.  Have any of you ever had experience with an internet adveritsing firm, and is it worth the expense?  I also can purchase postcards that will be specifically sent to people with expressed interest in buying or refinancing their home.  Here is some of the postcard views.

This is jsut a couple of designs and I just need a little feedback on what everyone thinks about the ideas.

Adam.... 100,000 hits a month?  That's a lot and I would expect it to be expensive.  How much?    I know a few companies that charge a lot..... and I think Tony Marriott wrote a blog on this.... how he was taken for a ride?  Maybe it was Jeff Dowler.... but look these two up or search for internet leads or hits...  try that.

AGGGHHHHH Don't even think about it.

so what 100,000 hits - anyone can buy traffic - it certainly does not mean 100,000 peopel looking for a home in your market.  What good is it if they are hits looking for anyone of a million other things on the intenet, besides your market?  totally worthless.

On the other hand, I likke your postcards and would like to see more - maybe you could either post them or email me.

Nice Cards! But I agree you don't want to pay for hits that have nothing to do with what your selling. On the other hand try placing these ads in some good real estate magazines,  Land & Homes is a good one. Also check with your chamber of commerce and see if they ahve a magazine you can advertise in.

How much are we talking for the traffic? Consider doing a first time buyers seminar.

This is the classic shotgun vs. rifle comparison. Definitely go with the rifle. Real estate is local, and a specific, well-targeted campaign will always outperform '100,000 hits.'

I agree with starting local and using the postcards.  I suspect the value of these cards is really who they get mailed to rather than what, specifically, they look like.  That being said, looking at these they don't seem to emphasize YOU much from a branding perspective.  We could help you create a design that reaches out to the right kind of folks and emphasizes 'you' at the same time.  Good luck and happy selling!

Thanks for all the comments I appreciate it.  I think that the postcards could be a grea tool but they cost almost 2.00 a card I'm not sure if that is what I want.  I have I think 6 or seven different designs if you would like to see them I can send them to you just let me know.

My first thought on marketing is that for our business you can never beat good face to face and voice to voice interaction.  Driving traffic to your sight is great but only if it translates to a person on the other end of the phone talking about business with you.  Mass marketing is great for mass products. Considering that the way mortgage and real estate agents do business is generally a local operation, it makes much more sense for our marketing to be local and targeted.
