The mega-star of coffee house - Starbucks is closing its doors early today at 5:30pm today (Tuesday February 26th) for a re-education training to focus on customer service. This closing affects all of its stores in North Texas. This training will last 3 hours.

Starbucks has always pride itself with quality service while serving their customers for a new coffee house experience otherwise never existed before they opened their doors.

So how can this apply to your business?

Use real estate as the platform. It can be any business you are working on. You could be otherwise selling insurance, book-keeping, just about any product or service. But how do you become very good at what you do, earn hips and hips of money and get a high level of satisfaction? The answer is pretty simple: Deliver knock-out exceptional quality service - to the point where it's unexpected, unimaginable and unprecedented.

Be exceptional (good is not good enough) at:

  • Time management
  • Accountability
  • Reliability
  • Competency
  • Communication
  • Delivering/ Clarifying expectations

And lastly, you must have passion for what you sell. Believe in the product. It's not good enough that you do what you do just because it brings home the paycheck. There is more to life thank earning a living: deliver high-level of customer service and see it can reward you in so many ways. Remember that real estate is just a platform!

PS: So if you typically get your coffee fix on your way home, you might want to get it before 5:30pm today.

PPS: All of its Starhucks location throughout the country will be closed for the 3-hour training today. Get your local stores for your local time.

I agree with you on really believing in what you are selling.  If you don't have passion for what you are doing then why should anyone else.

Loreena, thankfully I never drink coffee that late in the day -- too much caffeine in the afternoon really affects me and keeps me up to late at night.  The lessons that you outline are ones that everyone can take to heart.  Starbucks certainly provides a good model for customer service.

Personally, I think it's sad that a place for people to get coffee could make the national news that they would close for 3 hours.  Do you know any other business that would have the same coverage if they tried the same thing? I don't drink coffee so it doesn't effect me, but I know people who go to Starbucks two and three times a day.  Imagine saving that $10-15 a day... wow!  Early retirement!
