It's Amazing!!!!

By
Real Estate Agent with Appleseed Realty GMAC

Hope all is going well for everyone.   I'am shocked that I showed a home and the homeowner yelled at me for being five minutes early, imagine if I was late what would she have said then.  The buyers were shocked and wanted to leave but I convinced them to see the house.  Is this any way to sell your home!  It is just amazing how difficult it is to sell a house no less have the owner yell at you because you are 5 minutes early.  There is no other job on this earth where you work, don't get paid, get yelled at and your not able to yell back.  But I love this job anyways.

I guess that homeowner isn't anxious to sell her home.  Something like that leaves a bad taste in people's mouths and turns them off to the house.  Too bad.

You ain't seen nuttin yet----one Sunday morning--- I got a call before 7 am and got the lashing of my life from a seller because he did not "see" his open house in the paper that Sunday for an open house that was to be held on the next Saturday===he yelled at me for a good 5 minutes. The end result---by the time I sold the home- and he saw how very hard I worked to get it sold--he became a dear friend who still remains in contact even after moving out of state.

One thing I've learned dealing with people during 20+ years of Retail and 3+ years of Real Estate, you never know how people are going to react to anything. Some people are friendly by nature, some are not. Don't let the bad apples spoil your day.

Vivian, I always tell my sellers to be on their toes for anything.  You just never know, that COULD have been the buyer for their home?  I hope you called the listing agent.

5 minutes?  Good grief, any watch or clock could easily by off by that much.

Sellers should be prepared for the possibility that showing may be a bit early or a bit late.  I usually make my appointments with the one hour time window.  That means some time between 12 and 1.  I want to give the buyers and myself that much leeway.  I have been yelled at for being "late" when I was there within the time frame I had the appointment for.  I know that sellers can be anxious but to yell at an agent in front of a potential buyer is not going to show their house in the best light.  In this case my buyers refused to look at the house at all.  Too bad because I thought it was the one they would have bought.

Viv, we're in the people business.  After many years of dealing with people I've learned is to expect the unexpected.  Maybe she was having a bad hair day.  Just move on...

Mamason,  I am sure after you got in there and showed them how professional and charming you are - they had nothing to say!  Try to remember this when you are cashing the commission check and laughing all the way to the bank.  Regards, Diane
