I got my first call off of my Active Rain Profile. But not the call that I was expecting.

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Select Realtors-Buy a home in Washington DC. Sell a home in Washington DC SP98364271

So today I was doing my daily reading. All of a sudden telephone rings. I picked up the telephone and we start talking. The person said that they saw my profile on Active Rain. ( I was very happy to hear that -Finally somebody have found me. Take my picture off of the milk cartoon ) Happy only for like less than fifteen seconds? Why? The person was a telemarketer from one of those Referral Relocation companies. I forgot the name but he said that he was going to e-mail me some more information but he never did. ( If you all want to know,I will try to see if there is a way that I can find out )

He talked about their program. Why didn't I hang up the telephone on him? Well! I guess since I don't want nobody to do it to me. I do a lot of cold calling and get hang ups sometimes. He said that they are not a Real Estate Lead Generation Company ( I think he must've discovered how I feel about Real Estate Lead Generation Companies by reading one of my posts ). He said that there is no set up fee and you can cancel the contract whenever you want. But? ( I knew there was a caught )they charge a $59.95 monthly fee and 19% of your commission if the referral closes. What! Are you kidding me? So I asked him "What if for some reason I don't get no referrals from you. Do I have still have to pay $59.95 that month? He said yes. What. I felt like pulling my hair.

Only problem is I don't have no more hair to pull. I mean,I don't know about you but I am not one of the heirs to either Warren Buffett,Bill Gates or Carlos Slim Helu estate. ( Then again,I could be. I mean who ever would've thought that Barack Obama and Vice President Dick Chenney are relatives ) I don't have no money to give away. Heck,I don't have no money for me yet alone for some company that I don't know or have not even heard of. But I have thought about looking into relocation referral companies . So I want to know,do you or know anybody who uses relocation referral companies? And if so,is it working for you? Please let me know. I don't want eliminate a way that I could probably end up bringing me business. Thank you in advance for your comments.

I'm betting the company was E-Perks and I considered signing up with them but didn't do it.  I contacted a lot of agents that were on the site and all but one said they've not even had so much as a phone call or email lead.  The one agent had only gotten one lead in 8 months.

You are not alone. I got the call, too. I do not have your patience, I told them to delete my number from their database and never call me again.

Good luck

Hey Lanre,

Like you and few of the other folks, I've received a few calls like that myself. It's a nussiance, but that's about it for me. And btw, I'm not one of those myself with a rich uncle Warren Buffet. I'm a little more like Jimmy Buffett, he's my man!

And just so you know, if I have anyone heading your way, you're the guy in D.C. for me!

Lanre-  I was like you when I got my 1st call and he said he got my name form Active Rain,  I got exited at first, it was short lived.  Gotten quite a few tele marketers calling me.  I have received calls from members here just to say hello and talk, that was nice.  I am still waiting to get a genuine lead.  I guess it would help if I posted to Localism first.    Thanks for the post.

Tina - You nailed it woman. It was E-Perks. See,I am glad you said that. Thank you very much. A desperate real estate agent would've signed up for that in a heartbeat. I need leads but I dont give away free money also. Thanks for your comments.

JL - Oh no! You mean it actually gets work. Oh brother. Thanks for your comments.

Jon - I try to be nice. I really do. But this is not the time to be pushing my button. Thanks for your comments.

Jason - Amen. I claim it this year. Its going to happen. Thanks for your comments.

Lynda - LOL. Jimmy Buffett is not bad either. And thank you, thank you, thank you Lynda. And if I have anyone heading your way,you are definitely my woman for California. Thank you very much Lynda. I appreciate that.

Darlene -It definitely helps to put your posts on Localism. Renee Burrows taught me about Localism last year when I came here. Don't worry, that genuine lead is coming soon. Sooner than you expect superstar broker. Thanks for your comments.

In a slow market , you get more calls from telemarketers than from prospects looking to buy or sell and we being in sales business are usually polite to them.

I have gotten quite a few call from compaines like this in the past week or so.  I guess it was bound to happen in the long run.  Maybe we should make a disclaimer on our profiles that we do not want any business from pay for lead companies!

Lanre - you are too funny!  You are an absolute riot!  I'm with Lynda if I have anyone heading your way, you're the guy in D.C. for me!  Well, take solace in knowing that if you ever do end up on a milk carton, I'll put in a call to E-Perks.  I'm willing to be they'll know where to find you because they seem to know how to find everybody.  I'm keeping my eye out for more of your posts because I appreciate your humor.  And no, I don't use any relo or referral services.  I get socked with enough fees as it is.  Although the write-offs they provide help my tax return...

Gita -I hate those calls. Instead of trying to help me make money, they want to help me misspend my money which I have done in this business already. Don't want to do that again.

Bill -Amen to that. But do you think they will comply to it? They better. Thanks for your comments.

The business that you are seeking will be a little slower than you want now, but if you have you tried a postcard mailing of a recently listed property.  That has been a great tool for me.
