"UNITED" STATES OF AMERICA THE ONLY WAY IT WORKS

   Politics and Faith are two of my favorite subjects and I do love to debate both of them. The problem is these are two area's in which "Everyone is always right".WE ALL HAVE ISSUES ON WHICH WE WILL NOT COMPROMISE. But that doesn't mean we should throw the baby out with the bathwater.

   If we would all stop yelling long enough to listen we may just find out that there are things which we do agree upon.

I am going to start by saying(although I intend to stand by my convictions) I appologize to anyone I may have offended because of the manner in which I stated them.

 We have a great country here and the only way we are ever going to get anything accomplished is by talking to each other. Maybe we as citizens can start, with the hope that Washington catches on.

So although I look foward to many more spirited debates I am making a no insult pledge and challenge everyone else to do the same.

It is a good reminder.  We can say (type) things without thinking sometimes.  Different personality styles don't help much either!

Hugh - you have my vote. Of course it takes two to tango (possibly a British expression - I do that kind of thing all the time) and it is a little frustrating that sometimes the message itself is deleted by people who have no answer to it. I make it a point not to hurl insults and I don't believe I have ever done that in these pages. I will however, stand up loud and proud for what I believe in as I did today. My friend Bill - you know I'm talking about you - and it should be a reminder to everyone that we Conservatives are not sheep that all sing from the same hymn sheet (yes I love mixing metaphors as well!). We agree 95% of the time but I'll defend that 5% because I never write anything here I don't passionately believe in.

Sometimes telling the truth sounds "nasty" to the person who does not agree with your position. I feel if you are passionate you sometimes come across to the other party as aggressive.

Nicholas, you make an excellent point, particularly when you are "arguing" with someone who is armed not with facts, but only with 30 second soundbites and no particular knowledge.  They tend to get defensive once they have spewed all they know and are unable to advance their argument.

Susan: Yes, that is generally how someone who listens to Rush, Hannity & BillO sees the world. Rather sad isn't it. We would all be much better off to LISTEN to one another and achieve common ground where possible, instead of following the rants of those who sole job is to continually antagonize. The right-wing rant-a-holics have a job only because they stir the pot instead of trying to bring us together.
