Has anyone had a lawn painted?

By

We have started seeing people "painting" their lawns around here.  I am guessing that this is not a new product, I'm sure you folks in dryer areas have had this for a long time.  I'm not talking about the stuff they spray on the side of the road that has seeds in it.  This is just grass paint.  We generally only have brown grass in South Carolina about 4 months out of the year, so I don't this is a business that I will invest my retirement in.  I ran into a friend at the Chamber of Commerce breakfast yesterday who is starting in the business.  He told me that it would cost about $500 for an average size lot at 6 cents per square foot.  He also told me about another company in town whose green paint was turning blue. Can anybody who has experience with this answer some questions?  Is 6 cents a square foot a reasonable price in your market?  Have you had problems with discoloration? Has it actually helped sell a listing?  Does having a green lawn when all the others are brown attract extra attention?

Funny question!!  My sister-in-law moved here from California last summer, she asked me the same question a couple of weeks ago.  Now is the time to treat your yard with pre-emergents, the companies put a green die in it so the customer knows it has been fully treated.

I've seen painted lawns in California, and alway look just like that, a painted lawn!  I have seen some effective  "touch up" paint to cover up a few brown spots here and there, that looks okay.

More and more, though, we're seeing fake lawn installations...This is not the Astroturf of yesteryear, but really natural looking fake lawns!  They stay green year round, and extremely durable and low maintenance.  I think you'll see examples on a number of football stadiums.  Its not cheap, but it definately is a plus for a 2nd home.

WOW

I've never heard of this before... I know staging is getting a lot of attention these days... we still have 40 inches of snow to melt in Wisconsin before we can think about doing this...

Yeah I've seen my golf course do it but I didnt know it was around for residential use.  I like the idea of totally fake grass. I live around a retirement community and most dont want the hassle of yards.I gues I'll just stick to spray paint! jk. Good Luck and Best Wishes

I love the saying that 2 gallon of paint is worth $50 in the can and $5000 on the wall. BUT I think I might have a hard time convincing my clients to paint their grass??? Who knows maybe it's the next greatest thing in home staging.

To provide accurate information, my product is not "Just Paint".  The formula was developed by a paint company and an Agricultural Chemist. (Our product stays green)  The product actually sinks into the leaves and keeps the roots of your grass warmer during the winter months.  This makes your grass pop out healthier in the spring.  The product lasts between 70 to 90 days.  It has an amount on Ammonia which turns to nitrogen and feeds your lawn.  It replaces winter rye grass which contains almost 15% weed seed.  There is also no watering or mowing needed like you have with rye.

It is a beautification product that has helped the curb appeal of many homes.  How many home owners spend thousands sprucing up their home inside.  No one sees it unless they feel good about the outside.

Our product is non-Toxic and environmentally safe.  It is not just paint.  I thought that a little more accurate information would help the discussion.

Found out more about our company and its locations around the country at alwaysgreengrasspainting.com.

Thanks

I was not sure what you were talking about....never heard of painting the lawn.  A great way to stage the home!  But, wouldn't it really look fake?

David, interesting.  I had not heard about grass paint before, but I guess it makes sense to make the yard show better when the home is for sale.  It was interesting to read the more in-depth explanation above from John Banks, Grass Painter.

Gives a whole new meaning to "going green". . . Actually, now that I think about it that way, it doesn't sound too environmentally friendly. . .but, I've never heard of it before this post.

I never heard of it, but I had to read more to see what you were talking about. I think I will more into Just paint for my own lawn. Why is the grass greener on the other side? Maybe they just paint it.... hmm.
