Phoenix Arizona's East Valley on Development Radar - Superstition Vistas

For those of you familiar with our wonderful communities, there is a large section of state owned land in Pinal County (about 275-square miles) on the edge of Mesa's southeastern border and extending nearly to Superior on the east and Florenceon the South. Florence Junction - east of Gold Canyon where the 60 and the road that heads to Globe or South to Florence will be right in the middle of this huge new urban area.

It has taken Arizona almost 100 years of statehood to pull in six million people, and it is thought that the next six million will be here in less than half that time.

The area I've mentioned is referred to as "Superstition Vistas."  It is thought that this area will become a self-sustaining community of one or more cities with jobs, shopping, recreation and housing. The concerns could include so many homes that multitudes of homeowners will be on the freeways heading toward jobs in Phoenix, Chandler or???

A group has been hired to develop a master plan for the 175,000 acres because the state is prevented by law from master planning its own property before auctioning it off. The plan is to make certain that it makes sense and affords freeway and rail transit; otherwise, nothing but another bedroom community will exist with too many people trying to make their way to their places of employment.

Ahwatukee is a prime example of plans going awry. Ahwatukee is referred to as the world's largest cul-de-sac. Very congested, and few ways in and out.

I will definitely be keeping my eye on this project.

Hi Teri,
Planning for towns and communities is so critical.  Those on these boards must have foresight, imagination and the best interest of the town and/or community.  There are a multitude of issues to consider and plan for.

Hi Cynthia, it is critical that such planning take place. That area will definitely need new freeway access, businesses and some type of infrastructure. This is amazing to me that one day I could see it filled up with homes. Though I grew up here in the 50's, and have seen much growth, it never ceases to amaze me how many people move to our beautiful state. I know it happens across the country but can only personally relate to this. Thanks for stopping by. ;-)
