To Google Adsense or Not? Have You Been Paid By Google?

For the past few months my brother, the computer scientist and myself get together on weekends and work on all of our blogging projects.  One of the biggest questions recently has been should we google ad-sense or not?...I wonder if people actually recieved a check from google.  Is it hype or is it real?

I can't say I have ads plastered all over my outside blog but I have a few...I don't pay too much attention to it.  It's there...and I am testing.  I seem to fight the guys at times...hmmmm...I can't say I like the fact that my competitors are on the same page is me and I am actually advertising them.  I got the concept just not sure if google adsense is for me.

My thoughts shifted recently Albert called on Wednesday and then he showed up on Thursday, it seems I stand to be corrected and probably need to reconsider what the guys have been telling me all along.  Interesting enough...Al got his first google adsense check and yes he was paid by google.

I was so excited as he earns his living on line...between his land and his classified ad sites..he has turned his blogs into money making machines.

For him he takes these checks and uses them to pay for his blogs. That's right for placing just a few ads on his outside blog...google adsense pays for his blog.  While we are in the business of real estate, I realize ads on your site may not be your goal.  But I have to ask...do you google adsense or not?  What are your views...and have you ever been paid by google?

I am interested in hearing more about what Sonja said in her comment.  I did not know you could do that and that is one of the reasons I haven't looking into this further.

No,  I haven't used adsense. However it might be something to look at in further detail.

The question I keep asking myself, is "How much would make it worth me putting ads on my site?"  I don't have the answer, but I know it's got more than 2 digits before a decimal point!

Which begs the question, how many click thru's would you need to generate that kind of cash? I would love to hear from someone actually making money this way, and if they would be transparant enough to let us know how much they make, and how many clicks it takes to make it.

I love this topic and will follow the comments!

Hi Sonja-I just saw where I can do it...I haven't played around in the control panel...like I said...I took them off...then on...then off...so far over 2000 page views 8 clicks $3.00 and change.  I don't post on my outside blog too much...that's the first one I started...I have other's in the works.  Thanks for the tips...

Lysa-I really believe you have to have a big readership and I believe based on what Sonja said you can pick and choose which ads to run!  I see now they video and searches as well.  I think Albert has a lot of consumer traffic vs. real estate pro's...that is what I am trying to grow as well my consumer base!  I don't think it is your content...it may be the ads you  have on your site

Hi Bob-I was in my dashboard....over 2000 views...8 click throughs and 3.84 all you have to do is put the ads on and then continue with your regular content.  The key is in selecting the right ads.....and having a large readership...I really believe outside of the real estate community!

Also, for me I don't really use my blogger anymore...except to keep me on top for SEO...so I don't add content there like I should...to me that hurts me!

They will not cut a check unless it is over $100.00...I figure if I don't make up my mind about the adsense in could be years before I see the first check.  I guess what I am trying to say...I want my blogs read...I want to grow my network...so if all I have to do is slap a few ads on and its just by a click...what does it hurt?

I can't disclose what my brother made...but I can tell you...he did get a check and over $100.00 the minimum...he does a wide variety of advertising on his sites...

I may take it more serious...but still a battle inside of me!

Midori, good post. I've seen those as well and feel torn as you do. I'll be checking into it though. I have two or three blogs going on. I think you can also put it on your website? 1@1.com - who I use to purchase domains and host my websites and blogs - also offers that program.

Midori, again thanks for the free publicity with another of your well written posts.

It is understandable that most of you would not want to use ad-sense ads that would directly compete with the services that you provide.

For example the site (homequestusa.ws) that we list our land, I do not use it on pages where there would be competing land ads, It is on the alternative energy pages, and will be on 'travel and adventure' pages.

I do not mind the competing ads on the classified ad site, mainly because anyone can post there for FREE.  So a little income from someone posting on my site, then clicking on an ad and jumping to another site helps pay the bills :-)

As mentioned by Sonja earlier, you do have the ability to filter out some of the ads (by keyword and URL).  Then you can have complimentary ads instead of competing ads.

Neal, sorry I purposely do not have ad-sense on the 'Real Estate Service Directory' blog. Since almost all of the content on that blog is submitted by people other than myself, I did not think it fair to run competing ads.

Midori,

The jury is still out for me.. I have a number of sites.. for some adsense would not be good. But I am trying it on a few directory sites I have.

No check yet but money is starting to add up.

The biggest issue I have with it is that it dilutes your impressions.

If I am selling tire for example, the adsense ads will for other tire dealers. I'm not sure I like that.

I am also trying targeted affiliate links from Amazon and Commission Junction.

Hi Midori - this is something Bear and I have just begun to give thought to.  We don't know anyone else who does this, but we've read a few articles of late that talk about the money being made, and that can be made, by using those.  Thanks for causing me to think a little more about this.

Adsense is something I have on my other blog. I don't make a lot but it covers my website expenses.
