So here it is, the best time of the year in southwest Florida. Spring training is here!!! Thr area is full of snowbirds, the roads are dangerous! Hammond Stadium has the new look Minnesota Twins in full stride (minus the mega talented Johann Santana, and fan favorite Torii Hunter). But don't write them off folks, with a young nucleus that includes all-stars Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau, sophomore Delmon Young, and Francisco Liriano and closer Joe Nathan just to name a few, the Twins will give more a few teams a scare. Lead by manager Ron Gardenhire and fueled by one of the best farm systems around (including hometown Fort Myers Miracle), these guys play the game the right way and they make us remember all that is great about old fashioned baseball.
Across town, there is another team. The defending world series champion Boston Red Sox rolled in to town with the entire northeast in tow (their other choice was to stay north in the snow and frigid temperatures and lament the New England Expatriates!....from a Colts fan) This team is built to repeat and will have a bullseye on their back all season long. But with an offense set up by young Jacoby Ellsbury, and followed by big papi David Ortiz, J.D. Drew, Manny Ramirez, gold glove and classy Mike Lowell and anchored by a great captain in Jason Varitek they will score a lot of runs. Combine this with ace Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, and Dice-K as starters and Jonathon Papelbon closing the door the Red Sox are the team to beat.
What does this have to do with real estate? Plenty, with prices back to a more managable level and the attractions that southwest Florida has to offer still here then we are starting to see a steady increase in activity. With the house and senate, along with Governor Crist working on property tax and insurance reform, the affordability factor is coming back. And what of those pesky hurricanes??? Look around you, tornadoes, wildfires, blizzards, flooding? Those all occurred outside the Sunshine State last year. Let's face it, you can't get around nature!
