Yes, Michele, a website is a must in our business. It has a two-fold function.
#1, as you mentioned, it can bring business from the consumer who finds your site and calls you for notarization as well as companies who find you through a search.
#2, I spoke to a prominent company in our industry a few days ago. She mentioned reading my profile on a website. In her explanation of calling me to hire me to do work for them in the future she named off some of the items that impressed her to give me a call. One of the things she mentioned is that I have a professional website.
This is not unlike my efforts and evaluation of companies I'm thinking of signing up with. I will look for a website. If I do not find a website, it is likely that I will not sign up with them as well as having no physical address.
If you don't have a website in 2008 you are dead in the water. I figured it out in 2003 and got a website.
Would you hire anyone that doesn't have enough business sense to get a website?
