There is no better way to spend a spectacular sun-filled day than to head to the Morris County Park System's multipurpose parks. There you can find spectacular settings which offer numerous opportunities to take in the sights and get some exercise. Hiking, biking, equestrian activities, play areas, fitness stations, fishing, boating, swimming, skiing, snowshoeing, iceskating and sledding offer varies opportunities for fitness and fun. There's just no time (or excuse!) to be bored when you're in Morris County! Lots of athletic fields offer a variety of sports, including softball and soccer.
Lee's County Park Marina currently maintains public boating access to New Jersey's largest lake, Lake Hopatcong. Mahlon Dickerson Reservation, the largest facility in the Morris Count park system encompasses over 3000 acres of beautiful near-wilderness and recreational areas, including camping areas with tent platforms and wooded trailer sites.
Take a jaunt on the well marked trails to Saffin Pond! Don't forget your picnic basket as there are tables set up to enjoy a quick sandwich. BUT, remember you're in BEAR COUNTRY! Never leave behind food or wrappers!
I happen to live within a 20 minute drive to Mahlon Dickerson Reservation and have had the pleasure of trekking through it's paths with my kids and neighbors many times. The woods are PRISTINE and offer a serene atmosphere where you can just be alone with your thoughts and the splendor of nature.
