How many passwords do you have to remember?

If your like me the answer is way to many!

I read a post on John Ford's Blog where John brought up the problem of having to many sites with login and password access. It's a problem that can have you turning green.

green

I mentioned to John about the application I use to combat this growing irritation. I use Password Manager XP by CP-Lab.

How many times have you forgotten your login information at the exact optimim moment that causes the most frustration?  It has happened to all of us. If you have more than 2 or 3 secure sites that you have to access you should consider a password manager program.

A password manager keeps all of your information in one central data base that is as secure as you can get.
The information is secured by multiple encryption coding that would take the CIA a long time to crack.
You can also keep credit card, banking information, and any information that requires a high level of security.

Many programs also allow you to use a portable storage device like a USB flash drive to store the program and the data. To use it you just plug into a USB port on any computer and your ready to go.

The manager I use is good, but there are also several free programs available. Free is good.

Here are three that you can download and use for free.

Password Corral

KeePass

KeyWallet

Are they really free? Yes. If you like the program the developers ask (not require) that you make a donation.

I have over 50 secure sites that I use, I only have to remember 2 passwords, my PW manager requires 2 passwords to open the program.

I hope this information is helpful, I always welcome comments and subscribers

This is one of my biggest problems - I have actually put them into my phone - I know people across the world are yelling at me, but this is the only way I can remember them all.  Good luck

When I register and receive my confirmation via email, i forward with the login info back to myself and add it to my Login and Password folder.  For sites that require me to change passwords on a regular basis such as ordering credit reports or lenders, I write them on the back of their company business card in pencil.  It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks...

Sounds like a great system.  I have passwords for my cell phone, my office phone, my MLS, both of my e-mails, active rain, etc, etc, etc,.  It's hard enough to remember all of the numbers and addresses, let alone the passwords.  Thanks.

Lee, I'm not there yet but I bookmarked this for the near future.  The ones that are bothersome are the logins and passwords generated and unchangeable by their program.  I hate to have them saved on my computer.  Thanks for the info.

This is a great post, thanks for the sites.  I am not sure if it is age or real estate, but my memory has degraded significantly since I began in this business;->

Thanks for the information, and the recommendations. Another one to consider is RoboForms. They have a free version with a limited number of passwords. They also have a paid version with unlimited passwords.

Vincent - Yikes!! your phone... just kidding if it works, don't change it.

Virginia - I'm with you.. I used to keep the old months for years so I would not lose stuff like that.

Dorene - My wife keeps them on a rolodex, I'm to paranoid about someone getting them.

Nannete - Glad it helped!

Laura - I've created a folder to keep new access info in and once a week put it in my PW manager.

Kevin - You'll get there we all do...

Mathew - with me it's both..... I lived in Jax for years I remember your company!

Hank -  Thanks Hank for the additional suggestion.
