By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Shoreline New Hampshire & Maine

Wow! This writer has obviously done her homework on ways to prevent plagiarizers from lifting your content and passing it off as their own.

Besides the basic Google Alerts and Copyscape, she offers 98 others tips and techniques to make sure your original content stays your own.

For example:

"62. Cut your images up: Turn one image into two or more segmented pieces, and it will be harder for a thief to save."

"81. Blogstamp: Get certified timestamps to prove when you created your content with Blogstamp."

Don't miss this timely, informative, and well written article on how to protect yourself and your material from, the writer's words, "internet slime".

Unfortunately, I find that real estate agents are the worst offenders. What's worse, is that you notify them of the infraction, they give you attitude and threats. Other agents have even used my trademark in their domain names, and then copied my work. It's an ongoing battle.

Buying or Selling? Ann & Jim are the local experts

Hi Chris,

The hotlinks in the blog go to the website/blog where the 100 ways are posted.

I would love to see a copy of your first time buying guides.

Why don't you write a post here on ActiveRain about them.

Jim, some people think the Internet is fair game. We are always taking a chance when publishing content on a public forum. These are great tips. Thanks for sharing the information.

To me, the idea of a blog is share personal insights and information or to alert people to something that has been seen elsewhere that might be beneficial. So why would someone want to copy and paste? If they are that devoid of ideas, the blog probably isn't for them. Also, if someone really wants to plagarize, there is little to prevent it - even if they have to retype everything. By the way, there is is an implied copyright. Whenever you publish something - whether you identify it with a (c) or not and whether you ever file any papers - it is deemed to be your material and is so protected.

Hi Jim - thanks for the link to this info.  I'm going to print that info up and work on it for my stuff.  I like that blogstamp idea - and there are a few others that look good, too.

I had a problem with both content and photos being stolen. Now at the bottom of every post (on my WP blog) I add a copyright statement. On each of my photos, I watermark them with my web address placed in such a position that it can't be cropped out without cropping out a key piece of the photo. PLUS the file name I give to the photo starts with "Copyrighted" as in "Copyrighted Olentangy River".

Now if we could just rid ourselves of the sploggers ................
