Football and Real Estate...Are the similarities a coincidence? Go Bears!

I have heard that the real estate season picks up after the Super Bowl. Now, I am sure it is a coincidence, and it just marks the end of the holidays, and people can see the light at the end of the tunnel to Spring, or is it? Either way, here in Chicago we will be cheering on Da Bears to victory come this Sunday! Hopefully, people here will be so darn excited about our Bears that they will just have to buy a house!

So, football season is coming to a close. And can I just say "HOORAH" to that. My house during football season is  like an ESPN Zone. My husband who is obsessed with football provides an environment of score tickers, ESPN, and chicken wings. Our local SCORE am sports radio channel is on 24/7, ESPN is on every TV (can I just say, that to me, it looks like exactly the same thing over and over again, and since NFL Replay my life has never been the same), the football score ticker is on the bottom of every computer, and I have to hear about his struggles with his Fantasy Football teams every week, while he browses on his cell phone to get the latest updates on scores. Our IPOD is filled with podcasts, and past SuperBowl games. Our life goes on hold on Sundays during football season.

I, on the other hand, don't watch football much. But I can recite every commercial on ESPN. I usually spend my Sundays doing real estate. The other day I was inputting a listing into my computer as my husband watched some ESPN show. I couldn't help but start thinking about similarities between the whole football extravaganza and real estate. Then I got thinking about how I could learn something from football (Eck!).

One second you're on top of the game the next second you may be in the doghouse. Just like a player dropping a ball, real estate seems to be a roller coaster ride. Your phone rings off the hook one day, and the next day your phone never rings.

What about the officials...one bad call and they are heckled and may be taunted, by the least, by a stadium full of nay-sayers. One bad call for us, and a lot is on the line. License, reputation, and clients. That's pressure!

Officials have to be fair and so do we. We have to do our best to make the right call. We have to act ethically.

We want our deals to run smoothly, and officials strive to keep the game running smoothly.

Playing football takes a lot of determination and inner strength. Enough said.

There are well orchestrated plans, and it takes more than just the players to play a football game. Coaches, the plays, the waterboy/girl, etc.......real estate takes a lot of "players" working together too. Assistants, mortgage people, lawyers, you get the picture.

I am sure there are more that I'm not thinking of, but I don't actually know all the "inner workings" of the game. Either way I am excited about the real estate season, marked by the end of the football season with the Bears as CHAMPIONS! I think Prince as the Half Time Show will also give us some inspiration to "Kiss" (Prince song, get it?) the Colts goodbye! GO Bears!
