Single Women

Ok I just couldn't pass on this one. Maybe this post will help motivate someone out there! I was just reading an article on CNN about buying homes & it turns out that 22% of our buyers are Single Women. That's pretty cool if you ask me. Only 9% are single men.

Why do I think there are so many more single women buyers than men buyers?

For one, we mature faster. Hey, there are of course, exceptions to the rule but again, it's true.

Next, women like security. While a man could be content rooming with a friend forever a woman is wired differently. She wants the security of knowing she has a home of her own.

Women are better with money. Ok some men are of course way better but in general a woman can, for example, go shopping & find some great bargains. A man walks in a store & picks up the first thing that fits regardless of price. Women can budget their money more effectively too. Again, exceptions to the rule I've seen the exact opposite from both sexes before.

The quote doesn't go into whether children are involved or not. But if they are, the mothers were probably granted half or full time custody so I'm sure they want a HOME for their children.

I love it because it's empowering. So many people like to make life harder than it really is. This goes to show you that things are changing, women aren't waiting around for a man, they are just doing it.

I'm not a female activist or anything but I do believe there are some good points in all of this.

Here's a link to the article if you are interested.....Single Women HomeBuyers

(one thing I was confused by was....9% single men, 22% single women, 61% married couples = 92% - who are the other 8% - dogs???

(yeah, that's my Honey dog - I took this pic last night - isn't she cute?)

Listening to your Needs

Women are better with money is a joke! They get the money after the man dies. Men shop less and really do not care for bargains or spending money at the mall. The credit card was invented for women and how smart is that?

Women do buy more homes, they buy them quicker and are easier to deal with. Women outnumber men as my clients 3-1 so your numbers ring true to me.

Mature physically yes. I am not sure about the mental aspect.

Susan...  I think Rob left this same comment in my post in regards to this.  Top Trendsetters to watch in your upcoming markets...... Part 2 ... Single Women

In regards to your post, you do make some good points and most are true.

And I am with Rob, a lot of my money was invested in women, leaving me poor...  ;o(

Rob: "dumb boys...."

Eric: We each have our own personal experience. Almost every guy I've ever dated was not as good with money as myself. They were too busy like Rob - wasting money on boozes....lol

& just to comment, men represent way more of my clientele - go figure...

Ava: Yeah I see that. Oh well :) - I don't know why you didn't say more here though?!?

Jeff: Thanks & hopefully you learned from your mistakes.

Whatever the reason, this is a great market to work with. Single women today are much more savy than than ever before. Many of them are quite financially successful before they are thirty. They have wide and varied interests and there are a lot of ways to market to them.  I find the health food store, the gym and the local Starbucks are all good places to get their attention. An interesting conversation, an exchange of business cards and a sincere desire to make a connection can go a long ways toward establishing a sale or a referral.

For several years now women have had a significant lead over men in obtaining either college degrees or graduate degrees or both.  So this is not surprising.  In the DC area where I work probably 3/4 women are type "A".  haha.  It is cool though as it reflects on the level playing field that exists in the United States.  Oh, that will open up the dialogue, eh?  Although if I was a male activist and a member of MAG (male association of guys...sort of like the NAG org.), I'd come out swinging about how the cards are stacked against males  in our society and this proves it!#!#!

I think the graduate degrees and home buyer leads by women show that a lot more men need to grow up.
