Don't be a downer!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Home Towne Real Estate

Every real estate professional I know, from professional functions to innocent social functions always hears the question "How's the market", "How are sales?", etc, etc. It drives me crazy when I hear people in my industry fire back with woe-is-me tales of horror, driving the perception of our market ever downward!

Reality is one thing, but do we really need to assist with the doomsday scenarios already propegated in the press? Every one of us should know what it takes to buy or sell in any market condition, and woe-is-me tails just amounts to whining. In our market, while things certainly aren't in a "boom", it isn't even that bad due to our rather fortunate geographic location!

Looks like sales have turned the corner in Grand Rapids, MI and we've got the stats to prove it.  I'm focusing on that.

I'm pretty busy so I can't complain...I take any deal that comes in front of me..even if it's rental or a sale that I won't make much off of...later on it might and has turned into a bigger sale so if you can't be productive in RE then go play golf or something:) There are properties that are selling and there are buyers buying...you just have to find them instead of just sitting back and sulking.

Kevin, I think we as real estate agents don't gage the real estate market by the economy so much, but on how well we are doing in it. If we are doing business and making money the market is great, if not the market is terrible. Even in a good market there are agents who always have a reason for not doing well in this business.

Good Post!

WOW, Kevin you hit it on the head with this one! This is one of the reasons I try to stay away from the office. It just drives me crazy to hear agents with clients in their office telling them how bad things are for them, but it is a great time for them to buy.

If it is such a great time for them to buy, then it is a great time in the market.
