join the flockI've used Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape, Seamonkey, Opera, and now Flock. Flock Web Browser is aptly named the Social Browser. According to dictionary.com, a flock is defined as a number of animals of one kind especially sheep, goats, or birds, that keep or feed together or are herded together. Definitely this social browser is not being used by sheep, goats or birds but by people like you and me. But like them, we herd, feed and congregate for information, that is why it is called a social browser.

Flock Web Browser is a free, next generation, open source, cross platform web browser. It was built on Firefox's technology, But unlike Firefox, Flock is a collaborative browser that can share various media technologies and allows people to connect online.

Flock Web Browser is pleasant to work with, looks great and it is just amazing. I can't believe many people don't know about it. Flock supports syndication feeds, direct integrations with Flickr and Photobucket, and is Web 2.0 enabled.

Flock Web Browser is here and it is so good at what it does. . If you want to be Web 2.0 savvy, use Flock. Since Flock, my real estate marketing is never the same again. What the Flock is the matter with you guys.

Does this browser transmit information to a central server which is monitoring what everyone is doing?  One of the issues with social networking is the propensity for folks to potentially abuse the privacy of the members of the flock.  Any info would be great.

The truth is what is actually happening is the opposite. Thru the Flock Web Browser interface you get to add RSS feeds easily so you monitor updates from other web sites and blogs. When you bookmark a page thru Flock, the information is saved in the bookmarking site and not in Flock.

Your observation is valid because even Google thru the Google toolbar is said to record and monitor your browsing data, IP address, etc. The answer to your question is I cannot absolutely say that Flock is doing it or not. No one knows at this point.

Using a social browser or any social/web 2.0 tools, it is a given that you surrender some form of your privacy. As long as it is not abused, I won't worry too much.

Yes, I took a look at it last night.  I'm not sure that I would want it for other friends to easily share me all their favorite silly videos.  But I think it has some very interesting corporate uses to encourage knowledge sharing.

At the end of the day, because we are all blogging on the web, we have Bio's, etc.. that I wouldn't worry too much regarding monitoring.  Like Teodolfo said, Google can record your browsing if allowed.  I am currently using Flock.com. I will update shortly on how it may help in the revolution "social networking".

Good post Teodolfo. I have been looking at flock still. I am still not sure how real estate inspectors can use some social networking sites, so that has slowed down my adaptation of this browser.

frank - here is what i do in activerain. i use rss feeds for all the groups i joined. and every day or two, i just click on the main rss feeds and see the blogs that i can comment on. it saves me time and effort. of course you can do that with firefox but you have to install a plugin to do that. in flock, it is all available for you.

Frank, think about this. Every social network site, you set up provides a link back your main site.  which will only help you in getting ranked on Google.
