Minority homeownership

By
Real Estate Agent with Howard Hanna

I am concerned about the gap between minority and non-minority homeownership and want to use some creative ways to educate and market this demographic.  Does anyone know of any websites that gear to this demographic?  Or if anyone can give me some tips.  I am making personal contact to local organizations ,but I am interested in some internet marketing tools.

Hi Sonja,

I also share your concern about the homeownership gap.  I used to sell homes in Milwaukee and I sold several homes to buyers through an organization called the United Community Center.  They had a first time buyer program for low income families.  It was great because when a buyer would apply for the program, they would call me to show the houses.  It was a steady source of business.  It was a bit challenging because I had to write the offers with the help of translators, but I felt good knowing I was helping people achieve the dream of home ownership.

I would suggest contacting community organizations in your area and offer them your home buyer services.  You could hold home buyer seminars.  Partner with a lender that shares your mission and you could really teach the entire process.  You will build your business and follow your passions at the same time.

You should also contact your local HMS Home Warranty rep at www.HMSnational.com.  The warranty protects buyers in case an appliance, furnace, or other mechanical item breaks and you can write the offer to say the seller will pay for the warranty on behalf of the buyer.  We print the warranty information in English and Spanish.

Good luck,

Steve
