Stop Blogging and Buy a Pull-String Toy?

Yesterday I received an email from a real estate agent in reference to an article in Broker Agent news called What Every Agent Needs to Know about Blogging, Social Networking, RSS Feeds and SEO . I read the article and my response to the email is below for anyone else that may have read that article.

For those of you short on time, the article basically bashes Blogging & Social Networking as a media for advertising. Oh and get this, the writer actually suggests that you should PAY someone else to maintain your blog for you. Ummm... how many of you would ki.ll me if I decided that I am going to pay someone else to write for me? (Ok put your hand down) YOU are the expert... you are the only one that can exude YOUR personality in YOUR blogs. Unless you want some college kid writing about your profession and scaring away what would have otherwise been potential leads... don't listen to this guy. Business, no matter what type, has ALWAYS been about networking... referrals are the bread and butter of ANY business. How on earth are you going to get referrals by setting up your online image as if it were a pull-string toy?????

Hi Agent,

Read the article. Not sure this guy knows a thing about the internet, but also really not sure who he is. He definitely likes circles.

"urging folks to employ methods and programs which are not overwhelmingly successful for a high percentage of the people who use them is not productive..."

Ummm.. a high percentage of people don't even know what they are doing... that's why they are not successful.. it's like 100 kids that never rode a bike before, hopping on their first bike and heading down hill... every once in a while you will get one that makes it to the bottom w/o crashing

It's the ones that take the time to learn that actually enjoy the ride.

Thoughts?

look, the post that are referring to address a point that someone from HomeGain made couple weeks ago. I see how they are not identifying themselves with social network sites. I think is a real estate agent is coming to AR looking for buyers he or she will be out of business in no time, why? because that it is not the intention of the site nor should an agent depend on this only tool.

so, why to come here? well to network with professional, to get knowledge and find out things from the industry that other way wouldn't been impossible to know. why I am here, because my name gets pich up by goggle, because i can show (professionals and not professionals) that I got something to say and yes, to promote my business.

combine your blogging, social network experience with your old school real estate tactics and you will see you business grow, after all 80 percent of buyers start looking for a home on-line.

Hi Bill,

I agree 100%. Blogging and social networking are great tools in gaining knowledge of the industry and sharing experience across the board. But, to say that these tools will not help buyers/sellers find you online is nonsense to me. If you use a bit of SEO, a dash of social networking, and mix it all together with regular blogging... you get internet exposure soup... and who couldnt use a little free internet exposure?

I think Michael Parker missed the point: The point of blogging and social networking is not to get someone to buy a house today, but to help build an internet prescence that will eventually lead people back to your website increasing traffic, links, search engine rank, and exposure, which will hopefully lead to more sales in the future. I have a My Space account and had one person contact me when I was adding new friends in the local area. This person is interested in buying a home and had lots of questions - maybe they will let me help them with their home purchase and maybe they won't, but it definitely gave me one more lead that I didn't have before. Blogging, social networking, and link building are like bread crumbs: put out as many as you can leading a trail back to your site. Do it right, do it often, and it should work - but it does take time and effort...The good news is that it is free! My Warner Robins Real Estate website is getting about 1000 hits per day.
