Generation Gap

By
Real Estate Agent with The Burch Murton Group of Washington Fine Properties
It amazes me how some of the most established names and let's call them 'heritage' agents in my market are also the most clueless as to how our contract works, how to upload a listing, and how to make sure their listings get online.

REALTORS have in the past gotten a bad reputation for making to much money for to little work. Listening to the amount of attention that these agents pay to the true issues invloved in selling Real Estate I am shocked that they are successful and that their clients come back. If only their clients could see behind the mighty OZ's curtain!

In a market where our regional contract is 46 pages, and prices are still shaky, you need to have every tool in your case sharp! I read the contract every month, and not just skim it for a client, I sit alone and read the contract to understand how it all works. When I have questions or something doesn't seem right, I call a lawyer and consult on the true meaning and sharpen my understanding.

When it comes to the new media approach to selling homes...it is coming soon, its here today! When I am surfing the net I am looking for new websites, blogs, boards, and information. I surf Trulia.com, Zillow.com, Realtor.com, WSJ.com, washingtonpost.com, usatoday, com and NYtimes, com weekly to listen to the changes in how buyers/sellers are seeing this market. I have created profiles(something the heritage agents don't understand) and comment on the boards when I see fit.

Hell, nobody's perfect as you see from my typos, but when it comes to your biggest asset/investment, you need to make sure that your agent is Real Estate smart, market smart, contract smart, and dedicated to making your process successful. Don't let youth scare you away, we are the agents that pay attention to the way things are today, not 'yesteryear'.

This isn't your daddy's real estate anymore!
