A new committee has been formed crossing Fairfax and Prince William County boundaries to promote the Occoquan River Communities. As a member of the committee I can tell you to mark your calendars for the upcoming Occoquan River Festival scheduled for July 27, 2008.
Plans are underway to create an educational and recreational event to promote knowledge of the Occoquan River and the local waterways. We are working on a number of activities to give families the opportunity to enjoy what our natural environment has to offer. We are fortunate to have participation from the Lorton Arts Foundation, Occoquan Regional Park, Town of Occoquan and Belmont Bay Community.
With emphasis today focusing on ways to conserve our natural resources and protect our waterways the Occoquan River Communities are leading the direction for the communities that are the most prominent on the river today. With the conversion of the Old Diamond Laboratory site to the 400 acre Occoquan Nature Reserve on Belmont Bay and the recognition of the conservation efforts at Mason Neck Park it is easy to see why this area is growing in reputation as an oasis in Northern Virginia.
Stay tuned for more information on the Occoquan River Communities and our plans for a summer festival. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor for the event give me a call at 703-346-2213. Your support of the Occoquan River and conservation of our area is greatly appreciated.
