Overnight several storms slammed Volusia and Orange Counties in Central Florida. Affecting the Central corridor with winds upto 65 miles per hour. Several mobile home parks were damaged and there have been fatalities reported. Power outtages have been reported in affected areas. The storms came in quickly and with great speed. As of February 1st the guidelines for tornados has been revised. The F scale is still being used, however it has been expanded. Volusia County, Orange County and Lake County suffered severe damage as heavy gusts ripped through the area late last night. Serious auto accidents have been reported as well. Down power lines, are making commuting efforts difficult for the morning rush.
In Volusia County the Sheriff's office sustained heavy damage. North Lake County, Deland, Lady Lakes, and Villages as many as 500 HOMES have damages from downed trees, and authorities are urging people to use "severe caution". There have also been reports of fatalities inthose areas. Authorities are asking people to stay off the roads, schools are open but they are asking people to be careful.
The storms came in from the west (Gulf) traveling eastbound at high speed.
Phonelines, powerlines, and trees damaged by wind have caused roads to be closed. Wind and hail flipped tractor trailers also blocking roads. Crews are assessing conditions in the affected areas.
Back in 1998 and F-4 Tornado hit Osceola County,causing severe damage and multiple fatalities.
Showers and storms continue to wind down as the storms head east over the Atlantic.
